Radiator for your rb. What have you used.

Well I am down to the last few things I need to finish off my rb20 240z. One thing I need is a radiator. So my question is what have you used for your rb zed. As you know the rb has the inlet and outlet on the same side. Has any one used a crossover pipe so a standard radiator can be run.

The standard skyline one fits in ok, Just have to make some brackets.

I have an Alluminium aftermarket one for a skyline just had to dent the

chassis rails about 3mm each side and it fits great.

Id seriously stay away from alot of that Ebay performance stuff.  They are low quality mass produced units ex China/Thailand/Malaysia.  I went for a 4 core race radiator/fan/shroud from Mckinney Motorsports.  They can make one for either Greddy style or stock and they were pretty serious quality, and thick.  I havent had any issues with any of their stuff and i bought a lot.

Hi  Mick, I'm running an L28 but bought one of the US ebay aluminium rads and it's very nice and not that much more expensive than the Chinese ones.  As it's a single pass design it wouldn't be hard to get the inlet or outlet moved to wherever you wanted, most radiator shops should be able to do that for beer money.

There are also a few cross flow OEM Corvette rads that the V8 guys use in the US.

Or you could let Paul loose in the engine bay with a hammer....

I looked at the picture in the ebay ad because I am doing this conversion at the moment.  Is it just me, or does the intercooler pipe run accross where the top hose needs to go?

Mick use r32 RB20DET item.

 

no need to cut or dent chassis. just cut or fold out the "C" of the side of the radiator. (no water going through it) also u could use the thermal switch on the radiator to switch in your electric fans. just chose one around the 75-80c sensor

 

had same setup in my 260. 42C day stuck in traffic with A/C full blast needle didn't move.never had an issue.

 

Sorry I trust OEM stuff lot more than ebay junk.

 

use brackets from R32 or make custom ones but use the insulators from r32.

 

also you could use the lower rad hose from R32. top one i think i used something else but cut down. it was a simple shape.

 

but before u go buying one try get measurement on heights as 260z have deeper rad support. may stick out a bit so keep note of that.

 

 

 

also insulators from r31 could also be used. bit cheaper.

I just have a 3 core copper copy of the original with the in and out pipes where they need to be.  It works so well that my car does not get up to temperature when driving around, or after 5 hard laps of Wakefield, seriously, it runs cooler on the track than at low speeds, with a fricking intercooler in front of it.

Yeh I have one of those already. I think it has a leak though. Maybe I should just have it fixed
