sydney mike Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Hi everyone, this is my first post so I'd like to introduce myself. As you have probably worked out my name is Mike and I'm in Sydney. I'm 35yo married no kids yet. Growing up our family has always had a Datto, starting with a 120Y, then another one, also have owned 1600, 260c. I still currently have 2 120y's, a 75 and a 76. :'( Today I am really sad coz I missed out on what sounded like a nice 240z to buy. Has anyone here checked out the 240z that was on eBay (item number on the heading)?? It was in ACT. From what the owner told me he bought it new and its totally original and unmolested. No rust, cars don't rust in ACT apparently I was told by him. He sounded like a real genuine older guy. I couldn't get down there to see the car today as I work and planned to go on tomorrow, sunday but someone beat me to the punch. If you are the buyer reading this, good on you!, congrats. $11,500 it sold for. I read somewhere on this site that don't stress, something else, maybe better will always turn up. Is this true? I would appreciate some advice on buying a 240, and what is a realistic price for one. Thanks all Quote
sco_aus Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Hey mate, welcome Yes its true, nothing rusts here I didnt even see it or i would have had a look at it and im annoyed i didnt cos a friend of mine wants one like that. Anyway, ocassionally ones like this pop up and someone goes home very happy, just have to keep your eye out. From what i can tell that was bout the right price for one, infact maybe even more, but its good to see the price going up i guess, this woud have sold for less a few years ago i reckon. Quote
Toecutter Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Welcome Mike, You should be able to find a decent 240 with 11K. Rust is the biggest killer on these cars and there's quite a bit on these forums about where to look for rust if your not sure. Do a search using RUST and it should bring up a fair bit to follow up on. cheers sulio Quote

There is another nice looking green 240z on ebay at the moment. I haven't seen the car in person but it is advertised here, ebay and on ozdat.com. Here is a link. It's ebay item #170118577582 or http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-240Z-1971_W0QQitemZ170118577582QQihZ007QQcategoryZ102220QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Decent rust free 240z's start around the 10K mark and the best examples can sell from 20 - 30k. A 260z sold last year for around $40k it was featured in many car magazines in the country. Quote
sydney mike Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 thanks for the welcome everyone, I guess with classic cars such as these that evoke such emotion from enthusiasts there can be some interesting prices paid for them. I did see the green one on ebay, notice the blue one next to it in the garage? I have seen some auto's for sale, has anyone here converted one to manual? is it a good idea? I'll post that idea and see if anyone done it before Quote
sydney mike Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 Zeddophile has step by step instructions for the conversion on another thread, what a legend! Quote
oldmates260z Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 If you are still after an original 240Z there is one on the Qld Zed site, you can get the link from the home page or see below http://www.zcarclubq.org.au/ Quote
silverz Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Hi Mike, I am the guy that bought the Z and had it transported to Darwin. Yes it is remarkably non molested and that's what I was after. It isn't perfect as it has never been restored or anything like that, the paint is original and still looks a treat and the car is in great condition for its age. The original AM radio doesn't give you much to listen to in the NT just Horse Racing or ABC radio national! but I'm not changing it. The car draws admiring glances whereever I go and runs really well, it is a lot quicker than my Datsun 720 Pickup thats for sure. I have had the 720 for years and developed a love of Datsuns from it that others find quite funny. For me the 240z is the ultimate Datsun and when I found a one owner car that had been looked after I went for it. I will have to be careful in the wet season up here as it can be really hard on cars. I took a punt as I never got to see it, I sent a mate around to check the no rust claim etc. Anyway I am happy as I got a straight car with no mods done over the years to undo. Quote
