Nissan is in a bit of an awkward spot nominatively, as it would seem ridiculous to imagine a 390z or a 400z- would also draw away from the original concept of a lightweight roadster-- not that the 300zx was anything less than obese. Will be interesting to see which path they go with the z with respect to displacement and induction.. Quote

Bizaro Z alternate parallel universe? The Z has had different size engines in the same chassis in the past. 2.0, 2.4 at the same time in the Fairlady Z (S30), 2.6 and 2.8 in the S30 at the same time (AU vs US), 2.0 and 3.0 in the (Z31) 200Z(X,G,R) and 300Z(X,R). I would prefer something light weight with lots of tuning potential a turbo 2.4 ltr Nissan 240z :-) designed as a homage to the original concept. Even a 4 banger 2.0 ltr like the 200sx would be good. The Gtr is a super car, but there is room in the Nissan range for a cheap fun light weight sports car. Kind of like an Mx5 but with more potential and tuning abilities and superb handling. Quote

No such thing as light weight any more with all the safety boxes that need to be ticked. The bigger engines are required to get the fatter cars to move. Quote

No, this universe. Yes, the Z has had many engines sizes, but as the years rolled on and the new models came out, the engine size always increased, it has never been reduced in size. Quote

In Japan it went from 2.8 liters in the S130in 1982 to 2.0 liters in the 200Z Z31 in 1983, and at the same time it was also available as a 3.0 Z31. The point is that this is not the first time Nissan has released a Z car with a smaller engine than a previous model or 2 Z cars with different size engines concurrently. Quote
260Coupe Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Finally Nissan are seeing some sense !.......Mazda have been doing it for the past 20+ years with the MX5- a true light weight sports car that is as much fun at 60 kmph as it it at 160 !- this is the closest thing to the Datsun Sports 2000 reincarnation available - 2lt, front engine, rwd and a rag top . The 370z whilst a great car, its performance only comes to the fore beyond legal speed limits so in my view a bit pointless.(same goes for most other sports cars on the market) Let's get back to a bare bones sports car with brilliant handling and adequate power which balances the whole package and get the price back down to under $50k.
