Rear ended in Albury - Process for reporting accident in NSW?

Hi,

A young guy in a Falcon drove into the back of my 240Z at traffic lights in the middle of Albury. It does not appear to be a great deal of damage, mainly a bent rear bumper and a few scratches in the panel behind the bumper. Apparently I was too slow going around the corner when the lights changed so needed a push!

We exchanged details and I went straight to the Police Station to report it. However the Cop said there was no need for any further action if we had exchanged details etc.

Are there any NSW people that can advise on any other reporting action I might have to take?, someone said something about reporting it to the RTA? however I have not been long in this area and so am unaware of the process.

Young man tells me he is insured with Budget Direct which concerns me as sounds like a company that does stuff on the cheap.

I hope they do not cause me too much grief getting this repaired.

Thanks

Regards

Peter

Contact at fault driver asap, ring him and tell him you will supply three quotes, offer to bypass HIS insurer if it is under his excess ( you going slow around a corner has farque all to do with him hitting you) if he wants to go through his insurer, he has to lodge a claim, tell him to do so asap  and he has to ring ypu back with his claim number so you can start ball rolling re repairs.

If he is NOT insured, then tell him you will send three quotes, he can choose which one to pay, he can pay repair shop direct, or pay you. And to be paid within 14 days, if not paid within, then write again advise you may seek legal action against him, and he will incur further legal costs

Good luck small claims court is a bitch, dont bother going there

Nsw vic qld no matter, same thing applies.

Dunno without looking, could be a $1000 repair easy, bang goes his excess, its into tje insurers!

Thankyou for the responses. I was only being smart when I said I was going too slow around the corner. I know the other driver is at fault and so does he.

I actually think I got off lightly, I don't know what it is with this part of the world seems they all love to tail gate you, normally though it is some huge 4x4 right on my tail, luckily this time only a Falcon.

To answer, yes I do have a witness and I am insured with Shannon's. I will call Shannon's tommorrow, though I do not want to claim on my insurance and lose no claim bonus etc. So no need for me to see this RTA mob then?

Thanks for the advice

I had the same thing happen to me in the CBD of melbourne a few years ago while sitting at a red light. I called shannons on the monday, gave them the all details. I was contacted a few days later to get a quote from my preffered repairer, it was $1100 and only minor damage like yours. The repairer submitted the qoute and I did nothing except drop the car off. They were great, good luck with it.

Shannons will sort you out, that's their job.

The service will be fast and if you have preferred panel beater Shannons will pay the shop and Chase up the at fault driver for payment with no cost to you, or any excess payable or any affect on you ncb.

Hi all,

Contacted Shannon's this morning gave them details about the accident and other drivers details etc, they gave me a quote number and told me to take the car to the repairer of my choice. I have been assured I will not have to pay any excess nor will I lose my no claim bonus, Shannon's will chase up payment from the other driver/his insurance. I must say Shannon's have been very good to deal with so far over this.

Thanks again for all of the advice.

hi peter just do me a favour and dont take your car to bf pannels in albury they have done a shitty job on one of my cars before, go to elite body and paint or jacobs body and paint, it will cost more but it will be done properly not just bogged up, also if you need some advice on them give me a call on 0423679877.

Hi Pauly,

I haven't seen you for a while do you still work at the same place? I did see a red 2+2 there which I thought might be yours but that was a couple of months ago.

I was planning on going to Zane's Panels in Wodonga. He did some stuff for me a while ago and seems to do reasonable work. The hassle is going to be that I know they will take the bumper off and send it away for straightening & re chroming and  that will take a while.

It may have to wait until mid/late Jan as I am in the middle of moving from Bonegilla to Wodonga and then I am going back to Townsville for Christmas in a week and a half's time.

Interesting what you say about BF Panels as some people at work have suggested them.

Thanks for the info, I hope I catch up with you soon.

Regards

Peter

Shannons may also be able to recommend a panel beater for you as well, that won't be a normal remove replace crash repairer that the other insurers perfer. When my ZG was rear ended Shannons found me a panel beater local to me and the work was spot on.

I wouldnt take a nice car to BF panels either (Used to work at Baker motors)

They do decent work, otherwise they wouldn't be in business, but for a classic zed, i would shop around to find someone who will appreciate it better.

Its a bit like going out for a nice meal, you wouldn't go to maccas (BF panels) even though they do make acceptable food en mass.
