aegean Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Curious as to why there has not been any comment or phone calls. Is my price too high ? Based on what I have seen sold, I don't think so, but interested to know what others think. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 10, 2011 Moderators Posted October 10, 2011 Usually with a price like that, a RWC (or similar) would be a bonus along with reg. Everyone likes a "drive away, no more to pay" thing... Quote
aegean Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Agree with that, but cannot get a RWC without doing the rust repairs, so it is catch 22. I did consider doing a patch job just to get the roadworthy, but decided against this as I believe it should be done with metal and not bog. Maybe that is what I have to do, but to be honest, I think it is the wrong approach. I guess to turn this around, if I do the rust repairs, what is it worth ? Quote
T.A.P Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Maybe you should post pictures of the rust areas so buyers know what is to be expected. Quote
zed74 Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Hi As is where is condition (based on a quick review of your photobucket photo link & my previous restoration of a 1977 260Z 2+2) I would say well below $10K. I would guess an estimate to properly rust repair & partially re-paint would be in the order of $5K :-\ Without meaning to cause offence (my apologies if it does) - the cost involved + your current expectations are most likely the reason for limited interest Quote
aegean Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 No offence taken. So, assuming the rust repairs were done, it is not a $15,000 car - even as original as it is ? Or, is originality not important to most buyers ? If so, this would be unlike most classic cars where originality is preferred over restorations. Quote
BobsYourUncle Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I think one of (if not the) main limiting factors is that it's a 2+2 - they're just not as popular unfortunately Quote
Patch Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Having looked at all the photos and been watching what the market is at I would say your car would sell for about 3-4k tops, If you spent the 5k to fix it it would be worth 8-10k turn key. 260z 2+2 are very heavy in the steering and women don't like that about them. Quote
Lynton Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 There is a buyer for everything and it is a tough market out there, unfortunately a game of patience is required by yourself as the public spending is limited to essentials these days and consumer and business confidence is zilch. The car is everything a would be classic car buyer requires for originality and no missing parts. The rest is putting their own stamp on the restoration and how far they go with it.................sit tight it may take 12months + to sell. Lynton Quote
reverendzed Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Ummm sorry patch but you are a little mis informed on the steering! a 2+2 will handle just as good as a coupe and often times better on a track or at speed. I seem to say it over and over but 2+2's sell and make great money when they are 'turn Key' just as Dimitri said. Rev. Quote
kobes Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I wish I was in Sydney! Coming from Wa this seems very reasonable. ( especially as we have to get relicenced anyways Goodluck with your price and it only takes around 80 over here to attempt a pit inspection why not try a quick hide attempt with rust and give it ago at getting register. Yeah it may be a hundred dollar gamble but the reward would be 10 fold Quote
aegean Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 I could easily do a patch job and have it registered, but I think it deserves better than this, and it just means someone has to go to the trouble to remove whatever has been done to hide it and re-do it properly - admittedly at some stage and they might prefer to drive it for a while before embarking on this. I have someone looking at it later this week, so will see how it goes. Quote

Rev. nothing wrong with the handling, just women find them too hard to steer in car park stuff. I have a 240 and the 2+2 and if i fixed it she did not want to drive it, so we bought a 1998 306 convertible for $3.500. + rego for her. Quote
Scoota G Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Here's a similar one on ebay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-260z-2-2-Sports-1976-2D-Coupe-5-SP-Manual-2-6L-Twin-Carb-/300610271666?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item45fdc4b9b2 Quote
perrin_07 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 apparently they r really cracking down on repairs to old cars now. ive being having a hard time with my datsun regards to the rust. So just "doing a cover job", might not be enough anymore to get it roadworthy. Quote
Brabham Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Hi do you have a pic of the front area around the radiator? Is it painted black or the blue? Just wanted to know for my resto. Cheers. Quote
aegean Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Body colour both sides. Engine side looks different as it has a rust preventative coating on it but it is blue underneath. Quote
kazaly Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I think you may have trouble with an asking price of +$10K. Usually around $5K for a good 2+2. One other fact that reduces the value of yours is the auto trans as pretty much everyone wants a manual. Good luck with your sale. Quote
Patch Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I see this is on e-bay now, 7 bids and at $4050.00. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-260z-2-2-1974-96-639-original-km-/120800058460?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item1c203e9c5c Quote
kazaly Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Should be instructive to see where the bidding stops for a 2+2 with auto Quote
Patch Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I see this stopped at $5200, not met reserve, A little bit higher than I thought it would get, but none of the photo's on e-bay showed the rust. Quote

It was visible in the additional photos on Photobucket and the link was included in the ad. Quote
