Hi Guys,

the V8Z is sold and will be off to sunny Brisbane on Wednesday next week, I'm sorry to see it go and if circumstances were different, it'd still be in the garage. So I'm just cruising the ads to see what's out there and I came across this z at Carsales.com.au.

Has anyone been to see it and if so, whats the general impression of it? I had a chat to the seller and it appears he's pretty keen to sell and is negotiable. the a/c doesn't work and it's got 'some rust' in the usual places but offsetting that is the 'originality' of it. any thoughts????

cheers,

David

dunno if this link will take you to the page

Congratulations on selling the car. Who knows we might see it in Vic one day. I hope so cause I love to check out other V8 Zeds. Those NATIONALS can be a draw card for many interstate cars. That other Zed looks like a pretty nice car. They are hard to find these days in such condition so who knows someone on the forum might snap it up. Sometimes you've got to spend a little more cash but it can save you in the long run.

The thing about completely original 260's is that you get a completely 30 year old car. Nothing has been replaced in most cases, and lots of money needs to be spent on engine etc to have the car how you want. Ive found, that almost every part on my car that hasnt been replaced in the last 35 years, has died on me. The diff is the only exception....touch wood.

But I guess if you know what you're getting yourself into, then this is a prime example of originality.

sounds alot like my car, except mine had been refreshed a bit in the mid 90's, and had the dash reskinned then due to cracks, and had been swapped to 240z carbs, and was 2g less lol, oh the seats had a rip in them at the base and are kinda stained, but thats been fixed now :D

however i dont think an orginal 260z is that exciting, i guess they might be one day, who knows? if he's fairly negotiable on it i dont think it'd be a bad buy as you can still drive it, and you know what needs replacing on it eventually - everything! i sometimes wish i'd bought one that had been restored as it would be nicer for cheaper, but i have no regrets, just depends what you want to get yourself into, and from a v8 240 to this seems like quite a difference!

yeah, as I said I'm sorry to see it go, and in hindsight I could have left the V8 in the corner of the garage, not done anything to it, and bought this one with the money I spent on the other - convoluted logic but you get my drift.

there's another for $7 -8K in ACT with a L28 turbo and discs all round, good exterior but ropey interior so maybe that's a better bet........ Or, maybe I should sit back and watch the market for a while :)

and you guys make a good point - if it's orginal then everthing is old and will need replacing, so why worry if the sticker in the glovebox is still there?

Evan, your seats look pretty good, were they expensive?

I definately recommend sitting back and watching how things pan out on the ever-fluctuating zed market. I watched and waited for about 6 months when looking for my mum's 260.

I can see what Evan is getting at with the original 260's. To what extent is an original 260 a colectable as an original 240?

I think if you're looking at anything other than a 240, you should look for something that has had the most money spent on it, without any modifications that detract from its future value....although it is a balancing act.

Looks like it's worth having a look at. Just gotta wonder how good an original paint job can be after 30+ years!? I really like that colour though. If I bought something like that I would pull the interior out over a weekend and drop the car off with a beater and ask him to pull all the glass out, supply new seals all round and pop the interior back in myself restoring or replacing all the aged parts. If there's no rust in the engine bay why paint it unless it's gonna be a show car!? But then again if the motors tired it would be tempting to pull it spray the bay and stick an L28 with some tripples in there. Hmmm...maybe go for the L28 turbo you've found! :?:...or perhaps wait and see what the market offers!?

..ah at this point we've gone full circle back to where we started!

ah...desicions desicions!

man where is this going???

i'm hopefully getting some pics of the ACT car tomorrow.. if i do i'll post them and your collective wisdom will help.....

Sulio, your idea of the seals and interior appeals cos I can do that easily. its the engine drivetrain stuff with the V8 that was hard - nothing is original, and no manual or wiring diagram will help - where's this wire go?? oh sh*t that's a chev/datsun/skyline/commodore part -who do i talk to about this? I loved it but boy its like your best girlfriend ever - REALLY hard work but oh so rewarding when you fire her/it up....!

i went and had a look at this one during my search and there is no doubt that it needs everything replaced. It really was in very bad condition, he wanted 8k when i looked so it has gone down but still not worth anything like that in my opinion but i wouldnt really know, being brand new to the zed scene. But i suppose if you are looking for a full on restoration project then you could go and see how negotiable he is.

My advise is that if you buy a Turbo Zed then you will be jumping back into the fire. Unless you know a shit load about turbo's and their workings. Remember my brothers L28 can beat twin turbo 300ZX's on the track so the extra work and money on a turbo may not be all it is cracked up to be. My advise would be to buy a Zed for around 5K and know that you will have to spend 5K straight away to cut out the rust repaint and change rubbers, seals and bush's. Then start on the motor more than likely a L28 with triples. Another 5K. If you don't want to spend more than 15K on this sort of car then you will never get what you want for 10K. My brother is tossing up whether to sell one of his 240's (Stock) a bit of rust etc. Been in his guarage for years. But he is growing tired of doing them up over a year or two. But like I say pay someone to do it over a few months and it will be clean and free of rust. I have a contact of the bloke who did mine if you need one. Good luck.

David,

I like the look of this car. Nice black 240z, very original with L24 turbo motor for sale in Vic, $12,500. How does it compare with the other turbo you found?

looks really nice in the photos but at the moment 12.5K is more than i want to spend. it won't stay on the market for long, I'll bet. it'd be a good one for Van maybe?

the ACT car photos havent arrived yet, dammit so I cant make a comparison.

Dammit that's only up the road from me too, had it been around the $9K mark, although I guess you could try to bargain it down a bit.

A set of wheels and and some flares, maybe a boot wing on that would certainly look the goods, kind of like this one from the "what would you like your zed to look like" thread. And with a 12 pound T04 this thing should be pumping some serious numbers off the treads.

I must resist the temptation for it is evil  , the loan money is for the new truck, I must resist, arghhhh........getting....weak.....must not........give..........in....arghhhhhhhhhhh

is that a carb turbo setup?

some friends have been telling me to paint my car black, but i'd have to say i'm only a fan of the very dark tinted colours, and even then the flair colour choice seems a bit questionable, unless its moulded in like the darius240z car :D

I really like this 240 turbo jobby. I would take the funny front bar off and replace the wheels with some 16" minilites and thats it. 7's on the front and 8's at the back. Just looks really nice as it is!

What I like about that pic is that it's what Carrol Shelby would have done to one in the day, that's the Ford man in me coming out I guess LOL

David bought the car with the motor in it needing some "final" touch's for rego from memory it was a Sydney car. I'm pretty sure I heard that the car he had just sold had at least 25K put into it to get the conversion done properly!????
