Huw Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 hmmm I've got a small problem with my indicators.... my right hand indicator started to go a bit funny over the last week (would have to try a couple of times to get it to work), LHS is fine. my RHS indicator now doesn't work at all, however the relay clicks (albeit slower than usual) and the globe looks ok.... any suggestions? I think I'll rip into it before work today (been a while since I've got to play with the zed.) Huw Quote

Toecutter Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 I've got the same problem Huw had. I've found the issue on mine is the actual switch the indicator "lever" comes out of. I've found you can unplug the four leads that plug into it and unscrew it from the half that has the lights/wiper controls. I've pulled it out and plan to replace it when I get back from a week away. Anybody a spare to sell? Quote
Toecutter Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 I've found some more info on the indicator switch that plays up. In addition to this problem I have also recently experienced that lights go out when changing from hi to lo beam. I figure this is closely realted to the switch issue as I beleive there are some contcts located just below the switch that is the hi low beam swicth that plays up. My plan is just change the whole unit over but I beleive there is an indicator switch rebuild kit available for the 240, not sure about the 260. It turned out to be a worn assembly/switch on the end of the indicator stick. I would only indicate right if i pushed it really hard. So i pulled it out the whole assembly, loosend up the screws that held the switch on the end of the stick and repositioned it. Now no left or right. What had happened was the plastic bush type thing that switches the switch has worn out, so that when you push the lever it rocks a bit and doesn't fully push the switch. (i think the switch wears internally also, and that combined with the lever not pushing the switch far enough up or down means no indicators). So i wedged a thin piece of plastic between the metal part that holds the lever, and the plastic bush thing. This takes up the extra play in the assembly that makes up for the worn part. Now it works fine. You should also adjust the switch position by loosening the screws that hold it in plase and repositiononing it so that you get both left and right contact happening. 11-05-2003, 11:10 PM #4 Victor Laury Super Moderator -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mr C, Excellent photo! Well it wasnt missing, just had slipped down a bit. I pushed it back up. I bought one a few years back from Warren. It includes the metal internal switch of the left/right select indicator and also the plastic high/low beam switch (common burn out problem on the z). It shows a price of $21.23 plus shipping. In my experience, this doesn't mean that it is still available through them. You would still have to call to check availability. Others, keep in mind that this kit will only rebuild the 240z style switch as far as the indicator selection switch goes. Seems like the 260z switch has a slightly different "moon" shape to the indicator select switch (see the metal "moon" shaped piece in Bens photo above). All else is usable between the 240z switch and the 260z switch. BTW Ben, Im glad to help out after all the help that you have provided me over the years that we have been in contact. Luckly the lights come back on when you switch it between high and low but a real worry!! Also when driving in some wet weather the other day ( with head lights on) I noticed a burning smell and saw some smoke come from behind the stearing wheel! I switched the lights off and luckly the zd is ok and hasn't burnt to a crisp! There must be some high AMPs runing in that low beam high beam switch! I must have a short in the wiring! has anyony had the same problem??? Quote
