Yeah not to complicated. I will give it to the boys and hopefully they can knock it up pretty quickly. I am glad I found it rather than us trying to have to re-invent the wheel. Not sure we would have come up with this. So hopefully is will eliminate most if not all the vibration in the car at full noise. The chain served it's purpose for the last 10 years but time for something a little more detailed. Just another unseen mode that will make a huge difference to the cars driveability.

now theres a good idea indeed, might have to get the guys in the manufacturing shop next door to knock something up for mine so I can get it back together.

Ive been running the old chain with radiator hose around it setup in my race car for many years. Its really easy and still alows some give in the diff.

 

That mount does look really nice though

i found another mount which leaves all the top strap etc, but has a small loop of folded steel with a slot to allo a lil bit of give but give it a bit and would limit out (only about <10mm).

 

heres the pic:

 

oops i see its a small rubber/poly pad, bbut id like/prefer this to the other but only because it looks so clean etc. and leaves the stock strap in place.

need to make sure you have a good insulator on the cross member of course.

Although I only run a R180, albeit welded, and different ratios, 4.1 or 4.4 or 4.8, depending on circuit or application, the old chain has worked well for a lot of years with no failures or bangs from the diff with a 6000rpm side step off the clutch for starts. I can't see much more abuse to the driveline than a race start :shock:

Oh well, my vote goes for the chain as well. It worked for the past 15 years in the rally car. Cheap easy mod.

hey gday, has anybody got any photos or diagrams of the chain setup ? im fairly new to independant bums and i have no idea what you mean or how its set up ? - thanks chris.

I was just wondering how the diff mount upgrade went, as I have got my father in law to knock the bracket together just waiting on the trasmission mount to arrive. Did you have any problems installing it? anything I should be warner of?

Hey Aaron, it's all made up ready to be powder coated in the next few days. The diff is being swaped around as we speak and then the rear mount upgraded. Hopefully the boys at MPC will finish it by the end of the week. I will be heading over tomorrow arvo to check on the progress.

Thanks for the update Craig, did you have any trouble getting the GM transmission mount? I have found a polyurathane one for about $44

Yeah good point. We couldn't find the GM mount here in Aus. But my guy reckons he found something that will do the job just as well. I haven't sighted it yet. I just hope it is polyurethane. Maybe you can give me details of yours and where you got it just in case his is no good. Then I can follow up one similar to yours?

yeah sure thing Craig, I looked up energy suspensions on the internet(they are mention in the site you posted) and looked up the part number 3.1108 and they have them available, $44 plus about $10 postage, polyurathane bush.

If you go into the buy online section on the right hand side there is a best sellers section and it is at #5. Gear box mount the best.

I even ordered the G/Box mount yesterday and got it by mid arvo today. Not bad. Looks perfect for the job. Man with all this info at hand people would have to be crazy not to do it. Easy and relatively cheap since all the research and testing is done.

Wow! that fast? thats good. Yes you are right Craig I went next door into our fabrication shop and they have enough scrap steel in there to make a few of these diff mounts up, and when you compare it to the cost of a second hand original diff mount or a new one for that fact it works out quite cheap.

I got a 3rd party to make it up for me and charged me a lot of cash. You might be better off using the measurements and getting someone to do the same for you over there minus the hefty bill.

I work with an engineering and industrial supplies company, as part of that company we have a manufacturing company next door I will go over there and find out how much to knock a couple of them up as he has all the materials etc there to do it. If you don't mind me asking Craig what did it cost you to have your's made?

Mine was around $1,500- which included labour to pull everything off and re fit. My guys are expensive but I always get top quality work. They have Jim Richards Porche in there at the moment. I am at the point where I rather pay a bit more and get it done right the first time rather than some wnnabe doing a half assed job. You would save a heap if you do the labour for fitting it your self. Form me I am a lay person when it comes to that stuff. I am not a big fan of doing the major work on the car I'd rather be driving it.

Thats all fair enough Craig! I have had my hands on that porsche before is a very nice one. I guess the main thing is that the end result is what you seek.

in regards to the chain setup i'm thinking i may as well do this while putting in my new diff :D, just wondering if these are the screws you connect the chain too? i've tried looking at hybridz but the only link to a picture i could find didn't work...
