stevo_gj Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Hey guys, Thought you might find this interesting: Price to import these HPC coated from states is $475. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-280Z-240Z-N42-P90-E88-Ceramic-Coated-Header-NEW-/400212390005?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d2e847075 Price to buy similar headers and have them coated here is $300 for headers and $280 (cheapest quote) for HPC coating so $580. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nissan-Datsun-240Z-260Z-6cyl-Petrol-Extractors-Header-/260773295282?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb74cb4b2 I know the two piece american one's are gonna need some kind of clamp, which won't look as good as a seamless design, but I can reduce shipping on the American ones by about $75 if I buy a lot of items, meaning it's $180 cheaper to buy from US than AUS at the cost of a couple little clamps on the exhaust! Thoughts? Steve Quote
dazzed Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 only problem is that if you want a 2 or 3 bolt flange plate you will have to grind off the coating and weld which if not recoated will rust, slip joints i find do just that slip or leak even with a clamp, certainly a lot cheaper, takes 10 days to send them off for coating and sent back here anyway, makes you wonder how they can produce them so cheap , lots of them probably Quote
luvemfast Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Apart from the 2 piece design. The USA made ones look like they'd perform better too. Quote
benny Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 The USA ones look much nicer... All the cheaper ones we get in australia are fairly crap!! Quote
dazzed Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 The USA ones look much nice... All the cheaper ones we get in australia are fairly crap!! your not wrong there, nicest aussie made pipes i found were genie they are mandrel bent ,but the primaries are too short, the hm header pipes have a longer primary and secondry but the pipe diameter is too small and require a lot of finishing off work and are not really designed for hi power L28 engines without a lot of work first Quote
zeds4ever Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Had a set coated at Guildford ( Sydney) bout 12 mnths ago, noticed that there is indications of surface rust coming thru on them as I have a vented hood set up & naturally water enters. Regards : Alan. Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 how bout you support the local economy where possible....... cheaper in china if youre worried about pennies now...... but if your worried about all of our futures, buy australian where you can...... china'ism is becoming the death of already advanced society and our government are fucked in the head allowing free trade, what happens when china say fuk u???? after they already consumed all our natural resouces? stevo_gj Posted May 2, 2011 Author Posted May 2, 2011 Thanks guys. Nato that is way beyond the scope of this thread, please feel free to make your own thread elsewhere on that topic. I'd appreciate it if we kept it on the topic of HPC coated headers please. If I bought the US headers and had a flange plate welded on do you think re-coating the flange plate would be expensive dazzed? Cheers, Steve Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 yep, but why bother, the HPC coating around where a flange would be, somewhat a metre or so from the high heat area would be insignificant loss of anything Do it yourself may be an option.....lots of heat req'd Quote
