Zedsded Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 So, now that I have got the engine running nicely, and the interior removed and cleaned, the next issue to rectify on the submerged z is the fuel tank/line. I drained the tank of all the water / fuel mixture and replaced hose lines. I am not getting anything out of either fuel line or return line at the tank. At first I thought the aftermarket pierburg fuel pump might be fried, despite sounding like it's working. So I hooked up an aftermarket noisy Facet pump to see if I can get any fuel flowing with no luck. I am thinking I may need to drain the tank again and blow some compressed air down the outlets? I have tried siphoning on a fuel line from both outlets from tank and it feels completely blocked. Does anyone know the fuel line/system well? Do you think it is blocked inside the tank? If so what is the way to clean it out...tank out? Quote
peter t Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Go with blowing the lines first from front to fuel tank then drop anything that may be left in tank. Low fuel levels can suck up some not so great sh.t from the tank. Insects have a great way of filling the lines with sh,t as well if left empty for any time. Quote
MaygZ Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Once you are able to get some fluid through your lines, I recommend flushing them with metho. Metho will pick up any water left in the lines and take it away, whilst petrol will coat it and leave it in the lines. Some metho in your fuel tank, after draining it, will remove any water and take it through the lines and burn it (in the motor). It is a cheap and effective way to get water out of the system. zeds4ever Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 How long has the car been left standing for with fuel n the lines. Had a similar problem when my Zed was left standing for bout two years & the fuel blocked & rusted out lines from the inside. Have you dicnctd the lines at the back so that you can compress air each one independently from the other ,establishes for sure that problem is elsewhere.Check fuel filter then finally pull the tank out & do it properly. You can then give the tank a good flushing out, then let it dry for a couple of days. Had no probs with mine since although I did make up all new fuel lines. Grate fun. Regards: Alan. Quote
Scoota G Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Problem was this Zed was completly under water in Queensland Floods, might help if you do a build threads so people can keep track. Quote
Retro Z Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Is the fuel filter facing the right way..flow direction towards engine?? Shove some wire down the line and see if it jams up. Quote
Zedsded Posted April 17, 2011 Author Posted April 17, 2011 Compressed air did the trick and as suspected the aftermarket pierburg pump is still working. The only issue I have now is I have a lot of fuel feeding to the 240z carbs and the set up I have does not seem to have fuel return connected. Does anyone have pics of how the fuel line setup to the round top carbs should look? Any help would be great! PS I am also selling my 260z carb set up and manifold on ebay - 99c start as they will likely need a rebuild Quote
Scottz Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Hi, As MaygZ has said, flush with metho to get out water. Also dose with fuel doctor. Any petroleum that has interfaced with water can have bacteria growth. Flushing with metho takes out the water, but the bacteria stays and propergates. It's a bit like algae and can block fuel lines and filters. Once it gets into a system it can be hard to get out. ScottZ. Quote
zeds4ever Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Could be you need a fuel regulator as by the sounds of it your pump has to much pressure. Should be no more than 6Psi. Or install another pump thats more suitable. Regards: Alan. Quote
Zedsded Posted April 18, 2011 Author Posted April 18, 2011 do the 240z carbs need a regulator if the 260z carbs didn't? Or do they have a built in regulator / pressure control? Quote
