  1. I have ordered the mechanical one...will update on how it goes!
  2. Has anyone fitted a G645A mechanical pump to their Z? If so what is/was it like? I am considering a mechanical pump and the Goss version is available locally. Thanks
  3. Are these fuel tanks interchangeable or are they completely different? I am considering putting 240z tank into my 260z while I restore the original tank. Just wondering if this is possible.
  4. Mine is on its last legs and I was hoping to pick up a decent second hand one, rather than recondition. Anyone have a spare or know where to find one? Thanks
  5. :'( Here's the ad http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260780227763&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
  6. These came with my Z, but I am not really using them. If anyone is interested make me an offer or I might put them on ebay. I will put some photos up soon too.
  7. After reading a lot about all of the different wheels I bought a new set of the Rota RB 16 x 7". I got a sweet deal from the US - about $700 USD delivered to my door. Unwrapped them today
  8. Just bit the bullet and with the strong Aussie $$$ ordered a set of these bad boys! Still keen on Chris240's wheels to have as spares, so if you can get a good freight price from the berra to Melbourne, let me know and I'll transfer you some $$
  9. thanks, had not thought of that! On the issue of bare metal resto or just good body prep and paint work, who are the trusted craftsmen of the Victorian members? After reading the Brown Hornet thread last night, I was wondering who are the master craftsmen down here... My sister has a beautiful 1976 BMW E3 and we had a specialist in Richmond work on that...can't recall his name at the moment, but I was a bit disappointed with some over-run in a part of the clear coat, so I want someone even more of a perfectionist than that!
  10. Yep this was an ebay purchase...risky, but was a good one in the end...better than I expected!
  11. Ok - so as suggested by some, I am starting a build thread for the revival of this beautiful 1977 silver 260z 2+2 that was one of the luckier victims of the recent QLD floods. This is going back to the start, and I will add more soon. Purchased from a very friendly and helpful New Zealander who spent a fair amount of time working on unsticking the handbrake so that the transport could move the car on and off the tray as well as being available to answer my questions on the phone. He owned the car for 10years and kept it very original apart from a quality $2000 custom exhaust system and a now waterlogged pioneer sterero. The dead zed made its way onto the back of the truck and arrived ahead of schedule at my house in Melbourne. The first challenge, was to get the rolling vehicle off the main road and up a steep driveway to my garage and workshop. I tried towing it up (with two drivers) at first with my 1965 Rambler 287 V8, but it struggled with the gradiant. Then I tried to tow it with the HX 308V8 one tonner, but not enough weight over the rear axle meant a lot of wheelspin and not much movement. In the end the Euro Audi allroad was called in and did it with ease. Thus begun the clean up job, washing off the residual gunk from the flood waters and road grime. Photos for part one...attached, assuming they work.
  12. do the 240z carbs need a regulator if the 260z carbs didn't? Or do they have a built in regulator / pressure control?
  13. commiserations
  14. Compressed air did the trick and as suspected the aftermarket pierburg pump is still working. The only issue I have now is I have a lot of fuel feeding to the 240z carbs and the set up I have does not seem to have fuel return connected. Does anyone have pics of how the fuel line setup to the round top carbs should look? Any help would be great! PS I am also selling my 260z carb set up and manifold on ebay - 99c start as they will likely need a rebuild
  15. Chris240 - very keen on those wheels PM sent last night. Just have to work out how to get them from Canberra.... :-\
  16. So, now that I have got the engine running nicely, and the interior removed and cleaned, the next issue to rectify on the submerged z is the fuel tank/line. I drained the tank of all the water / fuel mixture and replaced hose lines. I am not getting anything out of either fuel line or return line at the tank. At first I thought the aftermarket pierburg fuel pump might be fried, despite sounding like it's working. So I hooked up an aftermarket noisy Facet pump to see if I can get any fuel flowing with no luck. I am thinking I may need to drain the tank again and blow some compressed air down the outlets? I have tried siphoning on a fuel line from both outlets from tank and it feels completely blocked. Does anyone know the fuel line/system well? Do you think it is blocked inside the tank? If so what is the way to clean it out...tank out?
  17. I figured the BBS reference would look strange. I was thinking about BBS etc when I upgrade to some nice wheels. Just want something reasonably priced to get me through until then. Will check out Benzed.
  18. Hi Aidann how much to courier a set to Melbourne? Also, how many wheels come in the no superlite set? is it 4 x one type (black) and 2 x another; or 4 of the same; or 2 x silver and 2 x black? sorry can't quite tell from your ad.
  19. New coil and cleaned up ignition barrel did the trick! I also put a set of round top (240z) carbies on and cleaned the engine up. She fired up and runs nicely when I feed in fuel direct to the carbs. Currently having trouble with the fuel tank and I think it is blocked. I will post under th fuel heading about this. Thanks for the help!
  20. I'm after some reasonably priced aftermarket rims for my 260z to make it look a little tougher. I am pretty keen on some hotwires or simmons or something along those lines that won't break the bank, as I will eventually step up to some Rota's or Watanabes etc...when I have done all the other bits and pieces! Does anyone know if BBS ever made rims with a 4 x 114.3 and 0 to +15 offset?
  21. Thanks Alan, I think you may be right. I just re-checked using the test light according to Dimitri's instruction under an old "no spark" post. I have full light when I switched to ignition on position with + connected to + on coil and - connected to - at battery. However, when I connect both light terminals to + and - on the coil and crank, the light only comes on occasionally not repeatedly. I also noticed that by toggling the key in the ignition in the on position, sometimes the fuel pump stops and the guages don't register...so I thin there is an internal problem in the ignition barrell. I will try it again with a new ignition barrel...or I might rig a switch first before I buy a new barrell. Does anyone know what wires are what from the coloured wires on the plug at the rear of the switch? ie acc, on, starter etc?
  22. Thanks for the replies. I rang the previous owner, no kill switch. I am intermittently getting 12v at the coil, but not constantly..I have a test light hooked up. It is the same z from ebay that was submerged during the Qld floods. I am in West Brunswick.
  23. So I have begun the cleanup of my newly acquired 260z 2+2, which is in much better nick than expected. My wiring still seems pretty good and electricals appear to work fro most things. Car is turning over nicely, but there is no spark to the points and I am trying to work out if it is a relay that I am not aware of. I have replaced all of the fuses in the fuse panel as they had been in water. I can hear click, like a relay under the cowl panel where the wiper motor is, behind the firweall when I turn the key to on. I don't seem to have any fuel pump or spark. Does this sound like a hidden kill switch? or is there a relay or other fuse I should know about? Thanks Will post pics soon!
  24. Hi All I have just added a 260z 2+2 5 5spd manual to my collection and will soon begin a comprehensive restoration. I learnt to drive in an electric blue 260z 2+2 that my dad used to have, I loved it and hoped to take it from him to restore, but sadly it was stolen about 10 years ago by some scumbags and dumped off the basin olinda road. I look forward to admiring all of your cars and expertise. Also, for Vic members, what VicRoads approved club should I join in order to put my Z on Club Permit? My other club vehicles are: 1976 Honda GL1000 naked goldwing; 1966 Rambler Classic; 1974 Jaguar XJ6 SWB and HX One Tonner
