Hi Guys

I have upgraded my brakes on my 240z, i now have 4 piston hilux calipers on the front with vented rotors and r31 disc brake setup on the back. I have also installed a 1" master cylinder. But i have to jump on the pedal hard to make the brakes bite,i need to upgrade the booster( I think) but which one fits ?and does anyone have one i can purchase. I have asked in various auto shops for 280zx booster but no luck at all,i have been told the 260z 2+2 is the one to get. any advise would be appreciated and a booster would be even better.

Cheers

You shouldn't have to do that with the setup you have... I'm running a 15/16th master with 4 pot fronts and R31 rear but with a small 240Z booster. Your pads aren't glazed over are they? Or a vacuum leak or has the booster failed? Check the one way valve that's on the firewall to make sure that it's only one way....

As zedman said you probably shouldn't need to change but the common idea posted around the interwebs is to use the booster from a 2+2. Have a search on zcar.com or hybridz.org or maybe even here for more info, i think it's fairly straight forward swap, possibly some small mods to make?

thanks for the reply guys, i have checked the one way valve and looked for a vacuum leaks ,all seem ok maybe the booster needs a refurbish. failing that a 2+2 booster it will have to be.

I could be wrong, but I believe the 2+2 booster is a larger diameter to early Zeds and the clutch master has a slightly different offset to compensate. Might be something to check.

If you need to get it rebuilt I got my 2+2 one done here http://bhss.com.au/contact.htm (well I'm 99% sure looking back on my old emails/contacts)

At the time I was told by some other shops that this was the only place in Brisbane that could do it, apprently if you took it to any other brake shop they would just send it on to these guys anyway.

From memory, roughly $280?? Came back painted and looking all new  8)

I have also heard that the 2+2 booster is slightly bigger than the 2-seat model & is a worthwhile upgrade if available to hand. But this sounds like there's a brake problem, is the system all bled correctly?

Hi Sexual sushi

I used BHSS year ago they did a very good job on some calipers that need rebuilding. Hi GILLTECH i have bleed the brakes again recently hoping that it would improve the pedal feel ,it pulls up quite well now with the discs allround it just takes a bit of leg muscle to do it.My daughter hopes to have a crack in the car later in the year at the track ,so the bigger booster would help as she only weights 45kg dripping wet.Anyone got a bigger booster they don't want??

cheers David
