reverendzed Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 hey guys, Just a quick update to let you guys know that we made it! after cancelled flights in LA, we finally (3 days late) touched down in Tampa Florida where we were greeted by sunny blue skies and some real friendly peeps who took us to our accommodation which they had set up ready for us with food, toys for the kids etc! I have a few days spare before I get busy again so will be trying to hunt down the Z wreckers that i spotted on my last journey here! Hope everyone is doing fine! Rev. Quote

PeterAllen Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Dave – From where you’re located it would be interesting to observe the social/cultural differences in the responses to Hurricane Katrina and the Qld Floods. Qld has more volunteers than they know what to do with yet a daughter of mine was in New Orleans a few months ago and tells me wrecked cars are still scattered around the streets. Apparently Australian ‘mateship’ and the egalitarian culture are considered unique by US standards. Quote
Sirpent Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Peter, I was thinking and discussing the same with my 2 boys earlier today, however the circunstances were a bit different as the levies that held back coastal waters were distroyed and the flooding did not recede with the same speed they spread as has been the case in QLD. By the same token, those water levels receded some time ago now and there is no reason why an effort to clean up hasnt been initiated except for the fact that GFC hit and that may have hampered funding to do so. Nevertheless I agree, Australian's have shown a fantasic response to the crisis and this cant be downplayed at all, we indeedlive in the lucky country but it seems it's less luck as oppossed to sheer grit detirmination. Scottz Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Rev, Last time you were in the US you asked about exporters. Check out World-Link for freight/export/import from USA to Australia. Scottz. Quote
