The one that got away (well i sold it)

Back in early september I sold my project, it was a 1975 260Z 2+2, so not rare by any means, but i loved her.

 

The reason i sold it though was beyond my control, my daily got written off by an uninsured driver and i did not get the money i wanted from my insurance, so in order to get another daily i had to sell my project.

 

Whilst i am happy with my daily, i still regret selling her everyday.

 

It does not help that because i ended up being in a rush for my daily, i let her go for much less than what i wanted

 

She had an L28 with twin SU's

skyline gearbox

17" performance superlite rims

koni adjustable coilovers (height/damper)

fibreglass bonnet

 

and drove like a dream, however she did have quite a bit of cancer

 

hopefully that tatts ticket i have in my wallet has the winning $31mil ticket so i can buy her back no matter what he asks, coz im pretty sure its gonna be hard to find another one like her

I remember this one when it was for sale.

 

Took a while to get rid of her though didn't it at a pretty reasonable price I thought?

 

It's always good to hear when someone wants to buy back/keep the car. It tells me that the seller really does appreciate the car and is not just selling to pass on any problems to the new buyer.

well the guy that bought it, stuffed me around quite abit and i got a touch under $4k for it

now i understand you never get back what you put in, but had i had time on my side i wouldnt have parted with her

im not going to sit here arguing the value, but it was a rather unique setup.

 

i remember the day i bought it and showing it to my dad, his responce was-

"you bought a DATSUN!!!" then walked off shaking his head

 

and salty, i have had a similar story in the past, bought a saab 900i for $100, got it reg & rwc, drove it daily for 6months, sold it 6 months later for $1000 with 6 months rego, still profit

I've sold a few cars and have had regrets and the only thing that can fill that void is another zed. Save some pennies if you can and find another one or buy back yours...

It's funny you say that Dimitri I bought a Mazda RX-7 (FD3S) to try and fill the void of not having my 240z over here in Ireland. Whilst I love the RX-7 and it truly is an amazing car. The Datsun is just a whole different experience. Loads of fun and I prefer the styling over almost every other car on the road.

 

I sold a 73 240z about 8 years ago after I bought my current 240z, I still regret selling it. It truly was a great car, just at the time we didn't have a garage built and nowhere to put it. I had stripped it to a shell with the intention of doing a full ground up resto on it. Being a student I simply didn't have the money to fix it up the way I wanted.

 

Now I have the money, but don't have the car. I still have a 240z I guess and will get stuck into fixing her up when I return to Australian (whenever that will be). I guess sometimes in life circumstances change, but there will be another car if you wait patiently enough.

 

I think it's funny that people attach a negative stigmatism to Datsun's in Australia. It's kind of like how everyone think rotary engine's are rubbish and unreliable. It's usually the same people who have never owned either who make those comments. People fear what they don't understand / know or anything that's different and challenges their mind set.

 

Anyway I'm going off topic here. Just keep an eye out and you'll find another car.

I think we all have been in the same boat - selling a car/vehicle and wished we had kept it. You know a friend said that

if we all had the space/shed to put them in you infact could have kept them all as it would have only taken a few more months/years to save the $$ for the next car without selling the other

. I have thought about this statement a number of times and he is right.
