Alan, you can bore the L26 out to take 2.8ltr 86mm pistons - this will make it an L28.

No need to find another engine then ;)

sonic is well worth it, saves spending heaps only to have something poke out the side, and, a smart machine shop may be able to offsett the bores to keep away from thin spots.

if block is n42, plenty wall thickness, BUT check first.

I have seen anything from 3mm to 7mm bore to water jacket in the one block

Back in olden days, a certain workshop would go through approx 20 blocks (talking L20B four cylinder) to find a "good" one, with no sand core shift, and then punch it out bigtime, and a crank stroke to whack out 2350cc's in a L20B donk, running twin 48dcoes, etc etc, but ya gotta check first!!!

I was horrified to find a 90mm bore in a L24 that i was asked to rebuild.

Bores were so thin that they had severe blow-by from bore flex.

Needless to say we didn't use that block any more, we brough an L28 and bored it to 88mm..... much nicer!!!

2.3? pffft.

Les Collins got the old 'Grunter' L4 out to 2.5ltrs (& used a Z18 head) ;)

The engine in that thread is going to be picked up tonight. Unless Dale decides that he needs more power and drops a V8 in his Z  :D

Oops, I didn't finish reading the thread! My apologies!
