Graedat Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Ok guys, here is an update. fitted the gas research and have since started her. She is sounding very sweet! Quote
mikedoeslife Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Damn, that's unreal. Can't wait to see this thing on the road! Quote
24OZ Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 that looks very neat, are they GRA-400's? what hp you aiming for,i see you're running twin converters(B1's ??) what are you running from the tank in the way of gas feed lines, a big single or twin lines? i am thinking of a twin turbo/twin gas carb setup but think that i will have problems getting enough gas through a single line and that the RTA won't approve a twin gas outlet from the tank....let me know if you have any thought on this dilemma? btw where did you get your adapter to run the twin gas carbs from and how much cheers paul Quote
Graedat Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 hi paul, i have a a 440 as the primary and a 480 as the secondary using B2 converters. I have a large flexible single line all the way line to the lockoff. i bought my gas stuff from the main Aussie supplier in Brisbane. Price for that system would be on the high side of 2 grand not including the tank or line. All the other small incidentals add up. Like the lockoff, the control switch and the brass fittings and sealant etc etc. I am looking at around the 300KW at the fly, but have bought these carbies to allow mw to go more when i am ready [have the funds]. Which state are you in? RTA are a bunch of c@#%s. hope this helps, i am also thinking supercharger later but will see. Quote
24OZ Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 i'm in WA, RTA over here are quite good...no annual inspection and the cops don't seem to pull you over unless your car is ridiculously baitish(scraping the ground,500db straight through system,25" rims,60000W sound system,747 spoiler, black spraypaint window tint, etc, etc) or you are caught street racing/drifting my car is a sleeper and doesn't get a second look....also helps that i'm over 40    Quote
RUSSJZ-ZED Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Where is your tank going?I'm toying with a single 460,nearly straight bolt on in place of throttlebody, undecided as to a too small doughnut tank (don't know why they didn't make these in multiple sizes) or cutting out the tyrewell and getting two 285x900's under.(82 useable)- Would have to find somewhere else to put the spare with doughnut anyway. Any other ideas? Quote
zdream Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Mate I love the conversion, What engine and what size? should be impres  ive Quote
Graedat Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 thanks zdream, its a 350 chev, i removed the spare wheel tub and made a cradle for the commodore lpg tank. Its 75 litres usable from memory. Quote
Graedat Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 Russjz, i would like to see some pics of the mr2 seats, and was it an easy install job? I owned a 91 mr2 turbo and loved the adjustable lumber and wing supports on those seats. Where did you get yours? P.S. car goes on the dyno on monday for a tune. Its seems way to dry out the exhaust atm so will trailer it down there just to be sure. Will keep you posted. Russjz, i had a 480 cfm carb on my other chev engine and it was just adequate for 150kw atw, if you want more power than that i would suggest a twin carb system. my twin is 920 cfm. Quote
zdream Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 hope to see it at the nationals this year. My engine is being screwed together as we speak so I will have zdream the convertable down there, we can give them all they have and not get locked up  Quote
Graedat Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 ok, i have been out of the loop for a while when and where are the nationals?? Grae Quote
RUSSJZ-ZED Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Mr2 seats were from Justjap Sydney,$380 a pair from memory(about 18 months ago) the lumber and adjustable wings make them super comfortable and really hang on to you on corners- much better than the Dat padded milk crates. The bottom rake adjustment also a big improvement. The drivers side not to hard to put in,I packed the back mounting points with a 25x40 quad tube, bolted it to original holes, then bolted Toyota rails to this. Front I used two pieces of 5mm by about 70mmx100mm plate to pick up original points bottom and Toyota rails top. Passenger side is a bit harder due to bulge in floor for exhaust(of no use to me as the 1JZ pipe goes down the other side.(crossover behind the box)Because of this, seat sits about an inch higher than the drivers(never know if you were not told) bar across rear is 40x40 tube- slightly higher plates for the frontmounts. The pic shows seats as far back as they will go(I have got long legs)thats the max recline at this point due to seats getting on to the rear wheel arch. Any more recline can only be achieved by taking the seat forward, no drama on passengers side, heaps of leg room and seat travel. I might have to look at a bigger carb, Gas Research will re-do the venturi(about $150)but I think 550 is as big as they go.I have used two of their systems before, both single 450s on Rover V8s (They went well ,but never again with cars from U©K the 1j is perfectly set up for a single, nearly a "touch nothing" bolt up.Throttle body off, Gas Research on(see what I mean in pic) double would mean a twin plenum(Rover Vitesse type) set up, then the intercooler pipes would be too hard.probably would not fit anyway. This is just a (scary)road car cruiser, over 300hp at the engine now, does not worry me if it is slowed down a bit.The car will never get near a track(the last time I was on one was in 1968) What are the actual dimensions of your tank?Any pictures ,ground clearance Etc? Quote
Graedat Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 Very nice clean install there!!! I am seriously looking at those seats now, they look trick. I see what you mean about the GR single carb, but a 550cfm should be sweet for 300 hp no probs.(Not that im an expert by any means). I will scan some progress pics of when i put the tank in, its pretty tight up the back and the exhaust fits fine, i am running twins to the diff then single 3" out the back but am changing to twin the whole way but major fabrication will be needed to do it right. Ill do a hunt for the pics and get back to you. Graedat Quote
Graedat Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 A few more pics, and off to the dyno on monday!!! Quote
RUSSJZ-ZED Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 might pay to move your airfilters out in front of the radiator, those big holes finally get a use, LPG functions better the colder the imput.they will pick up all the engine bay heat in that position, kills the power. As an experiment, If you can try them on a dyno inside and outside the engine bay, you will see a big difference between readings. Quote
Graedat Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 yes too true. I have them this way as i am saving for silicon elbows and i am running them in front of the radiator with polished stainless steel tubing. So i hooked them up this way in the mean time, also the cops would book me as they need their own box or to be outside the engine bay if they are pods. Quote
Zeddophile Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Graedat, what compression are you running in that? I assume its pretty high, since you're on straight gas by what I gather? Quote
RUSSJZ-ZED Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 How did you find Gas Research to deal with?I found that when they were in Melbourne, they were super efficient/helpfull, you could ring them up, tell them what you had, ask for opinions , and order on their advice, and the mix of rods jets, and venturi would be spot on within the tuning range.I have found that since they moved to Brisbane, any questions are just met with a sullen silence, zero thinking about combinations, just "we don't know, take it to one of our authorised fitters.'Two in Sydney I am aware of have tossed them over, can't get parts when they want them, too hard to run a business based on their service/supply. Crazy, you have run theirs before, once they are set up, you forget, never have to touch it again, they seem to want to commit commercial suicide, So dumb, It has got to be the best, most reliable gas delivery system going Quote
Graedat Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 Well i found the complete opposite. When i was thinking about upgrading from single to twin carbs i was told by a melbourne fitter i would have to sell the single system and buy a complete twin setup. When i contacted Brisbane i was greeted with enthusiam and was given a list of parts i would need for the upgrade. I was very impressed. Quote
Graedat Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 zedophile, i am running 9.6:1 compression as later i may run some boost. Quote
