marlon Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Hey guys, currently changing a head gasket on my L28. The problem is, i put the head on torqued up the bolts and tried to put the cam sproket with chain attached on to the camshaft, but it wont reach. i have another spare block in the garage and tried to do the same on that and it has the same problem- i even pulled the tensioner out, but to no avail. Theres around 10mm from the pin of the camshaft to the hole of the sproket. is there a method that im missing? thanks in advance, marlon Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Bwahahaha... Sounds like you didn't wedge the tensioner - time to pull the fron't timing cover off & re-align/install it all. Quote
marlon Posted June 19, 2010 Author Posted June 19, 2010 lol i was just reading about this wedging. damn. so whats the problem with not wedging it? is it that the tensioner goes past the chain guide? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 19, 2010 Moderators Posted June 19, 2010 It puts all this spring loaded tension on a now loose chain and then the tensioner itself falls partially out. As Lurch says.....remove the front timing cover! Is the engine in or out of the car? Quote
marlon Posted June 19, 2010 Author Posted June 19, 2010 i c. it was out just yesterday morning, but its in now. owell looks like il be pulling it off then. thanks for the help guys! Quote
Scoota G Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Best to loosen the sump so you don't stuff the gasket when you put it back on. Quote
