Hey I have a 260z 2+2 that I had hoped to get up and running but as title suggests it has a twisted front left chassis i think the rails which according to the panel beaters will cost me 6k to get fixed. So im shattered.

I would like to get an estimate on how much i could sell all the parts for.

Its a complete stock car with a running engine. 5 speed manual gearbox.

This topic could probably go in parts selling topic but I have a "friend" who also wants it but obviously not going to him for free so i would just like an estimate. If its a decent estimate itll go up for sale on the forums.

Thanks guys.

Yeah he said it would be a big job cause he'd have to strip it and replace both the rails. Still thought that price was very high. Any ideas on price? Ive been offered $500 for the whole car which i think is a bit crap.

Geepers mate. $6k is a bit over the top right? Even if it needs to go on the rack.. Hey Scoot, who was the guy you and Dale sent Orange to? He might be able to do a bit better price? Unless the chassis is quite twisted?

Oh, have you considered stripping it yourself? That would cut out a large part of the labour costs if you stripped it and they only had to work on the shell.

For price, depends on what condition the rest of the car is in.. But $500 is a bit cheap. I mean, I bought my 2+2 for $500 and it was a rusted heap, complete, but rusty and the engine has a suspected blown head and hadn't moved more than 2 metres in the 10 years before I bought it.

Yeh it still needs alot of other things done to it. Like the mechanic said 2.5k to fix mechanics so its not really worth my time. Nor do i have the funds.

The body is in good condition except for the passenger side guard. Only a small amount of surface rust on back drivers quarter size of 50cent piece. And theres minor paint chipping on headlight surrounds.

Ill take some pictures when it gets here and put it up.

6k Is way to dear  :o

I dont see why he would have to replace the rails unless they where rusted or squashed flat

Even if they needed replacing i dont see why they should charge that much.

And i dont see why they need to strip the car to straighten it I like to straighten cars with the guards and bonnet fitted if possible because it helps to be able to see what the guard to door and bonnet to guard gaps are doing.

Also leaving the engine in the car can aid in straightening because the weight of the engine can be used so not as much pulling pressure is needed when the car is on the rack.

It sounds to me as if they are trying to take you for a ride. I hate work shops that pray on people who do not know any better

The rails are pretty bad. It was in a prang before my dad bought it 10years ago and the guy pulled one over on him. He had put aluminum over the badly dented rails and body filled it then painted it to make it look like it was ok. He was pretty annoyed when i told him as was I. It will need a replace that's for sure.

Its up for sale anyway. Car is complete and running fine just the chassis is hacked.

sounds like your getting a 'I really couldnt be f&%#ed doing it' quote.

its a pretty common thing these days, as there is no real money on doing old car repairs for a business.

they make more on insurance jobs.

Here are some pics. There pretty bad pictures but i don't have access to the car atm. I just took some unhappy snaps when it came back from the shop to show dad.

Not sure if you can see but the first pic is the aluminum that the previous owner stuck over the rail.

The second one is the dents in it.

Where are you located? You could get the guys that did mine to quote it. They are Blackwell bodyworks in pakenham. Otherwise you would be better off getting another 2+2 shell and transplanting the gear into it.

There are also a couple of two seater shells on eBay that you could use as a basis and transplant alot of gear into

Exactly what I was thinking to be honest. Those rails don't look too bad, in that you should be able to replace them. What makes you think the car is "twisted"? A chassis jig should be able to line it up pretty good.
