opening rear quarter windows

Has anyone ever adapted the opening rear quarter windows from the 2+2 to fit the coupe? i realise it might be a bit more difficult than just adapting the hinges and the opening mechanism. any ideas?

I would tyhink it would be pretty difficult as there would be some fabrication involved and you would have to be prepared to have a breakage or two with the windows

dont bother, just go and buy a 2+2!!!!

i think that in getting rid of all the heat thru the firewall, it would be alot better than a hole in the roof. I must be alone, but i think the idea kinda cool. need to get some vents/louvres in the bonnet too......... anybody got a late 260 bonnet for sale??

the chev is running now, new lumpy cam, lifters, carb, fuel pump etc. currently at the auto elec getting fuel pump safety circuit, tach and wiring clean up done. with the new cam, it's making too much noise so new rear muffler next.

I reckon they would help in sucking them in.

 

Any way if you want to get rid of heat from the cabin you have those bloody big pits of glass that go up and down, and then you get to hear the exhaust even better :lol: :lol:

last time i saw the 260z at pick pay and go in heatherdale it still had its bonnet which had the vents in it. although it wasn't in perfect condition...they do however seem to do things half price that aren't in good condition so it might be quite cheap, no idea though.

 

i think it would be cool to be able to pop the rear windows open, i have a feeling it would suck air in from outside though instead of venting it?

thanks guys, I saw a 260 bonnet with surface rust and paint crows feet sell on ebay for about $80 (i think) the vents were in good nick tho. I still might need more openings that the std ones

 

I run my car with the windows down ALL the time, yes the best sound is a V8 idling at the lights - that and a ducati hang on, through a tunnel's not bad either.... but I haven't smelled the exhaust yet. mind you, you can't smell carbon monoxide can you?

i have a nice picture of a car with it on, just can't find it atm.

 

as a side project i've been wanting to get one of the vented hoods, and cut out the raised triangle and turn it upside down, or fibreglass up an intake if that didn't work out, then also make some fibreglass vent things for the vent holes that are already there that are like whats on this car in the same sort of position, if that makes any sense at all

I drive my 2+2 mostly always with the rear 1/4 windows open it helps move the air in the cabin even with the aircond on. My car does not suck exhaust fumes unless the tailgate is open check alignment of hatch and rubbers, tail lights & rubbers and any rust or holes at the rear to allow exhaust fumes to enter. Lynton

You are right, Alighnment, plus a decent hatch rubber seal,and exhaust pipe extended as far as possible,no exhaust skunk even with the windows right down.I suspect that the pipe being clear of the rear vaccuum is the easiest fix.Seal will keep out what's still lurking about.
