bobs260 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Anyone have reasons for/or ways of stopping exhaust fumes from entering the interior of a 260z when the drivers window is open Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 13, 2010 Moderators Posted April 13, 2010 Why would you want to get rid of those lovely fumes? That's part of the fun of owning a zed! Craig (620Z) has found a good temp way to stop em but I have yet to hear of a good way. Quote
Taz Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Hybridz has a bit of talk on reducing fumes, this is the thread that i remember but there might be more on the site. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?/topic/8856-can-a-rear-spoiler-reduce-exhaust-fumes/page__hl__fumes Quote
Lynton Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 260Z's shouldn't get fumes into the interior of the car. However the rear hatch rubber seal (if deteriorated) is the most common area of suction of fumes back inside of the car. If the car has been rear ended panel line up maybe an issue as is the tail light rubbers seals. Also check that the spare wheel well for the rubber drainer rubber plug is in place. If you have an exhaust leak at the manifold or start of exhaust and the rubber seal at the gearbox boot has a hole in it fumes will creep through there as well. The exhaust pipe chrome tip can be turned down to face the road may also assist. Lynton Quote
Scoota G Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Anyone have reasons for/or ways of stopping exhaust fumes from entering the interior of a 260z when the drivers window is open Reconditioning the motor on mine helped heaps... Less fumes out the exhaust ...Less in the cabin. Quote
sexual_sushi Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Not sure about the different years, but there is a rubber seal that is meant to go around the fuel tank vent hose (infront of the right hand side tailight). Mine was perished and I suspect there are some fumes coming in there. Other than that I would say Lynton has most of it covered, oh and check that any unused holes from teh firewall to the engine bay are plugged to stop any fumes from the engine bay coming in that way. chris240 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 dont forget the fuel return line that goes from the tank and runs behind the plastic side hatch panel....the line comes away from the grommet within the hatch floor and vapours escape...a bit of silicon can fix this.. Quote
maddos Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Might also check how far your exhaust extends past the back end of your car. Quote
herrods Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 i printed and read that piece on hybridz.org, very interesting reading... make sure your car is not leaking fuel as well, I had a problem that I thought was fumes, but it was actually a few drips escaping from a cracked fuel tank vent pipe. didnt find out til i got pulled over, and told that i was dripping from around the diff area..... bobs260 Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 Guys thanks - Loads of info and a number of areas of investigation Quote
sco_aus Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Putting a front spoiler on helps dramatically and ZD44TT was telling me that his small BRE style wing helped again. Its just less air swirling around at the rear, so less fumes to enter cabin.. Quote
oldmates260z Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 I had the same problem in my 2+2 and chased 3-4 things and then to finally find it was the rear hatch seal. Cost me less that $20 to solve buying 18mm x 6mm seal adhesive foam from Clark Rubber and putting it on top of the existing seal all the way around. Quote
