Timwell Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Reconditioned 240/260z gearbox for sale. It will fit straight into a Z with no modification. The internals of thegearbox are an R32 skyline/VL Commodore/200SX 5 speed configuration with a double synchro on second gear. Built by an ex Nissan Australia racemechanic when Nissan was something in Oz. Apart from that I dont know much more about it. Hasn't been used at all. This thing is a sweet gearbox and will present you with no problems. Consider buying a used 260z box ($400) then rebuilding it ($400-$600), but do it with trick bits you might be lucky to pay under $1200. I need $800 from this. All standard ratios...I believe. Tim Genuine sale, just getting rid of stuff. Quote
peter t Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Do you reciepts for the work done. Sorry but have already bought one that was stuffed. Quote
Timwell Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 no sorry, I bought if off another guy who had the work done in melbourne...I was planning on putting it in and selling the 260z box out of the car but want the cash more than a new gearbox.... I highly doubt it is stuffed.....what was wrong with your last box? Was it stuffed from the outset or did it break after a while. I am 100% confident that this box is good.....dont know what I can do for you really... If I dont sell this it'll go in the car and Ill sell the box out of it...justa pain in the ass having to chahe a g box... Tim Quote
Mr240z Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 1st - Spell Check.. If your 100% confident you could give a warranty, but I doult your that confident. Quote
Timwell Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 "1st - Spell Check.. If your 100% confident you could give a warranty, but I doult your that confident." spell check...got it.....maybe you should do the same I "doult" you did it ha ha About the box. I would be hesitant to warranty it because I can't be 100% certain of someone elses driving style. They may crash through gears and drop clutches....I am confident of the box performing as it should but not so confident that I could guarantee it against others driving or their installation of it etc. I would be open to providing a warranty after the first installment against it working and against gears and bearing not breaking in the short term. However anything longer that a month or so and I would be getting a bit sketchy. Either way a good suggestion and am very open to negotiation. I have emailed the guy I got it off for receipts and am waiting out. Like I said above I will just put it in my car and sell the 260 box out of that....which I know is good. We all take risks when we buy stuff on these forums and I have not had a bad experience with anyone here ....yet. Quote
dat2kman Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Looks like a stocko ( external) B type Datsun box ( late 260, 240K, early Skyline etc) Shame said Race Mechanic didnt throw some close ratio gears into it at the time, there would have been plenty lying around, ex Holinger too. What's the chaps name, some here may know him? The R32/VL commo/S14 gearsets are overall longer front to back and wont fit into a b type box extension, and fifth gear ratio is fantastic for freeway economy runs! It would seem that it has just had the synchros converted on the second mainshaft gear, is that right? I have a couple of early close ratio 2.9 Z boxes, as well as a couple of Option boxes for sale, all are A type, and am doing some development with the later C type's making em' fit into L bells ( rb/sr conversion), now those are well truly beefed up over the old Datsun boxes! Timwell Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 the man who built it is Andrew VIBERT of Central Victorian Auto Parts (CVAP) in Shepparton. Quote
Timwell Posted March 10, 2010 Author Posted March 10, 2010 OK for all of the non believers out there. I just spoke to Andrew from CVAP and he said he put all new bearings and seals in it. He also said that to get the combo to fit he put in a VL main shaft which means the s13/14 combo can fit onto the shaft. the Datsun boxes have the same external sizes as the VL boxes so this means the box I have for sale is essentially a rebuilt skyline box with z casing. "Why do that?" I hear you say....well: The gears are much stronger than the standard z boxes. New parts are easier to come by. It has a double sync on second which means it can take more grief. Finally the ratios are 3.25:1 for 1st unlike a 260z box which is 3:1. So all of this combined makes it a damn good box for $800. As a side note he said he does Box rebuilds...so for anyone else in Vic that wants one done contact him by the CVAP website. Quote
stevo_gj Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Hey Tim are you sure about this ratio you quoted? Finally the ratios are 3.25:1 for 1st unlike a 260z box which is 3:1. I was just looking on this website (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_180SX) and it seems like its either 3.321 or 3.214? or am I getting my cars mixed up.. I've just made a post about the new box in my build thread btw: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,3782.msg63283.html#msg63283 Quote
