Lynton Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I just took my sons 1988 Z31 Californian for a run down to the Mornington Peninsula, via Monash and Eastlink M1 motorway, I was down helping my son move house for a couple of days and also getting housemaids knee, what a great cruiser!! especially after Daniel Moore was able to put some articulate "oomph" back into its motoring, Now I am just waiting for a new AFM to be fitted that i have just sent down express to Melb and I am sure it will really make the delicate difference to his car...an understated car for the money that's for sure. zzzzed Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 yeh i took mine out on the freeway today, they cruse very well. I dont think ill let this one out of my grips again i love it Quote
zzzzed Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 i did some work on the calli over the last couple of days. I found that the rack ends are rather warn. I rang adelaide z cars and they are going to rebuild the rack with new rack ends and new seals for $450 and they are going to do it while it is still in the car which is even better. It occured to me i dont have any engine bay shots so here it is Quote
Surly_Z Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I want a non-targa 2-seater Z31... There's actually one for sale right now. It was the same car I made an offer on a few years ago. The only thing holding me back was getting it re-engineered in ACT. You Canberra guys will know what I mean! I think another member here owns it? I may be wrong...? It's definitely my 2nd dream car. http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8474955&__sid=127BAD656BF0&__Qpb=true&Cr=12&__Ns=pCar_YearMade_Int32|0||pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|0&keywords=&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294963846%204294963448&seot=1&tsrc=allcarhome&__Nne=15&trecs=161&silo=1011 bad Quote
zzzzed Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 Man dont show me that stuff.. I have been up in arms about weather i should put an rb in my z31. My thought is if i spent the same money on the vg30 as what it would cost to do the rb conversion, the vg would more than likely be putting out more hp than the stock rb. The vg puts out around 156 kw at the motor and pulls like a train. It isnt real hard to get 200 rwkw from the vg30et with Mercede's 450 cc injectors, bigger fuel pump nistune ecu and turbo upgrade. all this can be had for around the price of an rb25det Quote
zzzzed Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 Ok i am a bit of a stale mate with the s30 so i decided to do some thing to the z31 this is where i am at I just purchased a 5 speed conversion kit so ill be going from auto to 5 speed . so far i have the dash half out ready to install the pedal box I also removed the tail shaft today to have the front yoke changed to suit the 5 speed. I didnt realise what a pain in PITA it woulkd be just to get the tail shaft out. I had to removehalf the exhaust Ill let you guys know any other pit falls i have along the way ok i got the dash removed during my lunch brake today. If you follow the steps in this link it really is a pice of cake \ http://www.az-zbum.com/repair.dash.removal.shtml this evening I managed to fit the brake pedal. I was told that tis is a PITA of a job but I managed to get it first time. All i did was use a screw driver Through one side of the pedal pin hole as i guided the pedal pin through the other side. Easy peazy I also have the clutch pedal in position but not yet bolted up. I hope to have the dash back in tomorrow eve Yesterday I managed to remove the auto box with out to much hassle. I probably would have managed to get the 5 speed in today but i had a bit of a set back with the spigot bush. Reference for people attempting this conversion, there is a spacer in the back of the crank shaft for the auto flex plate. This has to come out or the spigot bush wont go in. Ditch this spacer, it is not needed I have to wait till tomorrow so i can get a new spigot bush because i trashed the last one trying to force it through the crank spacer Quote
zzzzed Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 I got the 5 speed in and working great. I didnt realise that it was going to make such a huge difference.. Wow this thing pulls hard now. Its like a different car. It was a pain in the ass but well worth it. Im never selling it now I highly recommend this conversion to any one (scoota) Quote
