webbered six Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I've decided to go RB30 and so now I'm selling my L28 and triple 45 weber set up. A few details. Firstly the motor came from Nismo with webers and 3.0l bore. I can put you in touch with the person who imported it from Nismo. Motor recently (100k's ago) had a brand new camshaft from Clive Cams put in by Daryll Penley formerly of Automotive Tuning Centre in Welshpool. Daryl has serviced this motor over the past 10 years. The motor was dynoed after and produced 170hp@the wheels. The motor is stock apart from bore and cam. I've run it down the 1/4 mile and best time was 15.8 but my Datto weighs 1270kg and I'm not the best racer. The motor has a stock N42 head, N42 block bored to 3.0L from Nismo. The triple inlet manifold is from East Beer Japan, has Jap writing on it. The webers have not been touched since imported and they are remarkable, both condition wise and ability to stay in tune. I'm only selling because I aim to have above 230 hp@tw and turbo for me is the way to go. If your interested please call me, I'm looking for offers around $2200. Come and have a drive and listen, you'll be impressed I'm sure. Great upgrade for a Z. Ph 9581 8997 Quote
reverendzed Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Hi, Quite interested in the motor. What size are the Weber's? I need to contact w-go couriers to get a price, are you prepared to secure it on a pallet for me? Sorry for all the questions but it will help getting quotes for transport. Cheers, Rev. Quote
fufu Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I remember emailing you about this engine but you said you were selling it to your friend. Such a shame that my priorities have changed since then. Quote
webbered six Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 Yeah fufu, it's a shame my friends priorities also changed. So here I am again. Had a quote done up today to post engine on pallet to melbourne. $215 with Perth Freightlines, not a bad price at all. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I think you should keep the L and turbo that. Note: This is a front sump Skyline motor, so its not a drop in replacement for a Z. You will need a Z sump and oil pickup and need to have the dipstick moved. Easy modification, but thought it needed mentioning. Quote
webbered six Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 The dipstick enters through the sump and not through the block. I believe the ooriginal dipstick entry point has just been pinched together to seal it. So just need sump and original pickup which I may have. I have thought about turbo but I have a hunch my head doesn't have the notches and finding turbo gear aint so easy unless someone has a complete turbo setup in exchange for a weber set up. It's comments like that that start me wavering and rethinking my options, DAMN YOU MR CAMO Quote
stevo_gj Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 You know, if you sell this motor you will have to change your forum name. but seriously good luck with the sale man. If I hadn't just spent all my cash on a paint job I would be seriously tempted by your motor. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Turbo parts aren't hard to find from the US. I bought my turbo parts from ebay seller blax240. He doesn't have any turbo parts listed at the moment, but if you send him a message, he may have some in stock. Also got some parts from nzeder (Now if I just had some time to build an engine ) Not sure what the legalities are with an RB swap over here. It might be less of a headache with the traffic dept if you keep the L. Obviously, an RB30DET will make more power, so if power is your ultimate goal don't waste time on turboing the L, But an L30ET should be more than capable of 240HP. Quote
webbered six Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 I actually applied to the Dept of Infrastructure here in W.A to put a 308 in it and I was given the green light and a list of things that had to be adhered to, but nothing to hard. If I go turbo it'll be RB30et not DET. The ET will have sufficient power for my neeeds. Quote
NZeder Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 L20ET parts show up on trademe.co.nz from time to time. This is were many get turbo parts for their L28 here in NZ funny thing is most of this stuff is from R30 skylines (JDM imports) and C31 Laurels (shares the same platform as the R30) These cars are where we find 3.9 and 4.11 R200 too. The 3.9's are found in C31 L20et auto Laurel's and the 4.11 in the L20et R30 Skylines. I am out of L6 turbo stuff now but over the years have stripped 3 for different people. Some parts went to WA via Mr Camouflage garage. Others to NSW and here in NZ. Quote
Vindicare Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Hey guys, Rather then PM I thought I'd put it out there, I've searched and heard conflicting reports. What I'd like to know is whether the L20 turbo gear is the same as the L28 turbo gear in size, I.E. the turbo manifold is it very close to the L28 version? Sorry for hi-jacking your thread webbered six Cheers Aaron Quote
DatPilot Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 The manifolds are basically the same, some have different cast numbers and no discernable difference. There is a L28et USDM version that has the 4 bolt turbo flange sitting about 10cm further forward, to stop the steering linkages/box/stuff in the LHD version of the car it came from (either a 280zxt or some laurel luxo barge) they all bolt up to wach other though, I know as i have done it! The EFI intake manifolds are another story, all are different, the best is the L28et, worst is the L20et (after 5000rpm it falls flat on its arse and wont rev anymore... bags of lowdown torque though, due to the long narrow runners) The L20et head is complete rubbish (stamped '05L') Quote
NZeder Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 The L20et head is complete rubbish (stamped '05L') Well take the cam out of it and bin the rest - I am lead to believe these cams have a good size base diameter and are good for regrinds. Quote
MaygZ Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Are we getting more than a little of topic??? Webbered Six wants to sell a motor, not host a long discussion on L20's - unless I'm mistaken. Anyone buying his monster motor?? Quote
webbered six Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 SOLD Pending payment to a chap in Busselton here in WA. Thanks for looking, if you did. Quote
