matt drago Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Hey Guys, Dad is in the process of purchasing a car from the US. Originally found it on ebay, but the guy pulled it from the auction. Dad kept in touch with him and they have agreed on a price. But he doesn't want to do the sale through ebay, etc. Dad doesn't want to just transfer the money to his account for obvious reasons. Does anyone know of a company or agent that will make sure that the vehicle really exists and all is good and legit? Any help would be appreciated on this one. Cheers, Matt Drago Quote
reverendzed Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I don't know of any agents but depending on where it is i have a lot of friends who could potentially look/talk to the guy. rev. Quote
pantah Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Depending on the price of the said car,Id be inclined to go over and inspect it myself..........Where in the States? A 240? Quote

PeterAllen Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I don't want to discourage you in any way but a word of caution. Have a look at Mull's 'Project Hugo' which was a rust-free Zed purchased from the US. I'm sure that if you joined and asked on a US 'Z' site there would be someone prepared to check it out - then again you want to make sure it's an independent person. Also, is it a LHD, and have you figured a conversion into the costings? Quote
Zeddophile Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Not sure why everyone is assuming that its a Zed.... Matt has only said 'a car'. Is it not just as possible to be some sort of American muscle, for example? I don't know either way, but for me I didn't immediately think a zed...... Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 7, 2010 Moderators Posted February 7, 2010 If its older than 25 years, a car can be legaly driven in LHD without a need for a RHD conversion. Unless the owner wants it. If it's his dad, it's probably not a zed... Quote
matt drago Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Thanks for all of the info guys. And yes, it is NOT a Z. But it is a Datsun. A 2 door 510, Dad has always wanted one. Dad was the 1600 nut of the family, his brother was into Zed's. I think the last thing that Dad would buy is American Muscle . LHD to RHD conversion costs are negligible considering we will do all of the work our selves. The car is based in New Jersey, just out of New York. Dad has found a logistics company that will ship to Australia and they are also based in New Jersey. Dad has worked out the money side of things as well (the company can do escrow). Just waiting on the seller to send Dad the paper work required to get the import approval from Australian Customs. Quote
Stivva Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 You can pay via paypal without needing an ebay transaction. Does the conversion for you and clears in 2 days into an american bank account. And its secured up to $20,000. Quote

I would love to get 1 myself although I must confess I'd be considering putting a rotary motor in it. The 510 2 door looks great. Would be good to see photos of it if all works out. Quote
