As a wee lad I took many many colour slides of motor racing at Warwick Farm and Catalina, etc. and I'm now posting them on a Historic Motor Racing forum. Some of the old drivers and the present owners of the cars photographed have requested scans of the slides... I have actually obtained a sit in Sir Jack's Repco Brabham in exchange for some photos, so it's 'pretty cool' as you young folk say. I've just been using the 'automatic settings' so far but now one person wants to make a poster of one image. I would like to know if I should 'max out' on the pixel resolution (or whatever) when I scan the slide or is that a waste of time. Can someone advise me on the settings I should be using on the scanner? Quote

sexual_sushi Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hey mate, nice scans. If you are wanting a hi res pic for a poster i would recommend 'maxing out the resolution'. What scanner are you using? If you want a proper job, ie if you were getting paid a large sum of money to do it, you could take it to a lab to get scanned (not any photolab, there are a select few companies who have the right equipment to do this, pm if you want to do this and I'll let you know where you can take it). Depending on where you take it it could cost between $35 and $200. For what you want, I would just scan it with the max settings. What size do they want it printed? If you send the file to me I can clean it up in photoshop (although I do like the authenticity of hairs and specs in the scans ) and adjust colour etc. I'll do this for 1 or 2 scans if you want but anymore than that and I'll have to charge. I spend enough time infront of photoshop as it is Quote
sexual_sushi Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Oh also, I'm sure you would know this, but make sure your scanner is as clean as you can get it. 5 minutes cleaning the scanner properly is easier than 5 hours removing dust and hairs in photoshop... Quote
