redrbzed Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Well I had a day to forget at Sandown. First flying lap up the back straight and a con rod let go venting the block!!! Then I discovered that my new spoiler with diffuser was so effective it pulled the front of the G nose down so hard it broke some mounts, this allowed it to scrape the ground under breaking wearing the front lip away.. That's motorsport. Sinisha Quote
chris240 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 bad luck always happens in 3's the racing gods where not kind to you today go buy a lottery ticket Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Damn Sinisha! That sucks... Any idea why it let go, yet? Time for a RB30dett... Quote
redrbzed Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 Hi Lurch, I have been racing that engine for 10 years now, and making more power the older it got, so I suspect fatigue. A 2.6 has more than enough for me. Sinisha Quote
PZG302 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 10 years for a race motor, that is very good reliability, well done on keeping it togther that long. Also good to to see the new front spoiler works, will have to put an undertray back on mine now.... Quote
Scando Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 That sucks, sorry to hear it. 10 years is a pretty good effort from a race engine producing the power your is though! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 3, 2009 Moderators Posted November 3, 2009 Hmm...always gives you a "hollow" feeling hearing bad news like that! How many dyno runs were also done in those 10 years? I'm sure they stretch the rods a little each time.. Quote
redrbzed Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 You're right guys 10 years of racing and countless dyno runs do take their toll. That engine has served me well... Now to start planning my next RB26 (with some better bits inside). Quote
waxhead Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Sorry to hear that If your going to go for the rb series which you should ethier go for the rb25 block with the rb26 internals or the king and the rb30det Quote
zr240 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Bugger! I have to say though at least you didnt end up with a porsche planted in your side Sandown has somthing against zeds I think. Hope you are back on the track again soon Ash Quote
620Z Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Ahhh Sinisha I'm sorry to hear the bad news. :'( Nothing worse. Good to hear you got so many miles out of it. Still that's no consolation when the car goes off the road for maybe 3 months and countless hours running around to get her back to it's former glory. Good luck with whole rebuild. I guess this counts you out for the 5/12/09 BBQ. Still you better come out and see some nice Zeds. Room to bring along the family now. Ha Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 3, 2009 Moderators Posted November 3, 2009 Not sure how good they are, but on ebay there's someone always selling N1 RB engine blocks on ebay...might be worth a look. Quote
