Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum having just bought a 240z last week.

I am trying to find where the compliance plate was/should be located. It has the factory fitted id plate located on the right hand side strut tower.

I just spoke to someone at Vicroads regarding registering it without the compliance plate. They said that if i have the supporting paperwork from the previous owner to verify that it was registered etc, I shouldn't have any dramas if the compliance plate no longer exists. :D

cheers

are we talking about adr compliance plate or vehicle plate.

both my 240z and 260z 2+2 have the adr plate on pasenger side on the firewall near the top.

as for vehicle plate (the one with engine number chasis and power rating on the 240z it on the rh strut tower somewhere on the lower side while the 260 had its own little bracket on pasenger side behind the tower close to inspection lid.

as for adrs 100% of the z ive seen were on the left (passenger side firewall)

im 90% sure it was on the drivers side, but the car is 600kms away and i havent seen it in a while, but my vehicle plate is in the front right of the engine bay.

What year is it?

Early 240z's never had compliance plates.

As for fitment. there was no standard place to put them. It was up to the individual dealers i believe.

yer mines in a shocking position, on the left tower not even straight, will be putting that in a nice spot once engine comes out and engine bay respray....

but yer, if been registerd before, its not a problem with vicroads with it being a old car etc etc....

Its a 73 model. I think the compliance plate once existed on the drivers side strut tower as there are 3 holes above the factory ID plate.

thanks for the replies people, hope to have my car RW and registered very soon, cheers

Bruce,

My Zed is a 73 and it has the compliance plate just fwd of the strut tower. My Chassis Number is HS30-102665 and it has 6/73 stamped on the compliance plate is your chassis number close to this.

My engine number is L24- 173267 that will also help you work out which way to look in 73 for the age of the Zed for rego.

cheers

I've just matched my chasis number which was above my brake booster with the compliance plate which came loose with the car. The numbers match ;) but I want to know where to locate the plate inside the engine bay. Pics would be handy if you've got some. I can't 4 existing holes where it might have been and the engine bay hasn't had any filling done.

cheers

I had the same issue when transferring into my name in ACT. Mine was a '72 and didn't have a compliance plate - but the mechanic still demanded one before he could sign the RWC. After spending half the day at the mechanics then at the Road Authority they finally accepted that it had no compliance plate and let me register my car! I can't remember the date in which compliance plates were added, I might be wrong but was it late '72?

I have a 2/71 and it has a compliance plate.

Mine is apparently a 73 so I have one but not sure where it goes?

I can't see a large enough space around the strut tower to put it.

Only passenger side firewall.

Mine being a 70 model, doesnt have one but the majority of 240's I've seen have their plate riveted near the strut tower shown in the pic below; have the engine out so it's a bit easier to see!

I've been told compliance plates were issued after around October 1970 (Not 100% sure). A lot of early Holdens and Fords didn't have any either.
