all of 800m from my house! luckily it was just for bald rear tyres, which i new i needed to replace but didn't want to till after exams...but now i got 7 days, fun fun, and i can't drive it in the wet so i'm worried of being strandard somewhere

i'm a bit worried as to how tight a road worthy place is going to be, my top dash light on my speedo has just gone out, but i guess you can't tell unless its dark, then i'm not 100% sure my rear defogger works...which i guess they can't test, then there's my headlights which i'm wondering if i should leave them in there so that way that is their main focus, or if i should swap them back to stock ones, the only issue with that is one of my lights had blown so does anyone have a spare they can lend me for a week? hehe

then ofcourse there is the rust in the doors etc, so does anyone have a place they'd recommend?

all in all after two and a half years of driving with this being the only offence under my name i guess it's not that bad, the only thing is annoying me is i was fined for loss of traction or something like that, which i think is gay as it was an intersection that was bricked so if there's even a slight amount of moisture on it, which there was, your wheels spin, so should i contest it? he said my rear tyres were half on half off the indicator...i guess either way it happened so ?

off to northend tyres i go! i was thinking of just waiting to buy rims but ohwell, might push that off a bit now, who knows

evan, buy some cheapo second hand tyres, that will cost $50 for both tyres.... so to save you some cash for a month or 2......

the fine, ive had that fine around 6 times, now, so don't worry, just as long as you said it wasn't intentional, they can't get you for reckless driving...... which youd go to court for, and then it be on your record..... but this fine, is it "not having full control of vehicle" then its not on ur driving record, so don't worry, just pay the fine, and get on with ur life...

about the roadworthy..... well, bad timing, but your car should always be roadworthy, so either take to somewhere dodgy that will let you off a few things, rust in the doors shouldn't worry, as its not structual.... as long as you dont have a chasis rail falling off you'll be ok.... i know places on side of the city that are a little bit hassle free for these type of events

Posted

yeah thanks nate, am planning on getting some second hand tyres tomoz, i am wondering if i should wait till the initial road worthy bit before i do it, so that way they dont search as hard to find other things?

bad timing indead, i dont really care to much about the fine, its more the annoyance and worried just how much stuff i might have to "fix", i'm gonna ask some mates if they know of a place near hear that will let me off for more things

if worst come to worst i'm thinking i just might buy a car (possibly a calibra?) that my gf will later buy off me ,or better still, get her to buy it and me to drive it, and take my car off the road for a bit to get the things done properally as i was planning to do this later on anyway

interesting about the rust Evan, as mine was knocked back on rust in the rear hatch area...(!) certainly wasn't structural and about the size of a 0.02c piece.

I'm interested in the "lack of control" issue with the police. If I turn the traction control off on the Calais (5.7L and open diff) it spins a wheel at will. In the wet with the V8 260 it spins the rears just looking at the throttle. So because the rear wheel is spinning, you're deemed to have no control?

Posted

i've got my car booked in for the place where it recieved a roadworthy when i bought it, so i'll wait and c what happens.

having read though what the cops actully gave me the fine i received was for not having a roadworthy car, and nothing to do with spinning the wheels. maybe nate can clear up the "not having control" thing? :D from what i remember i wasn't spinning the wheels, it may of squeaked but nothing major, so mayb they were just trying to get me worried?

Posted

the fine for "not having full control of vehicle" is pretty much it... what i did is did a u-turn, and basically hanged the rear out for a few seconds... coppers said what was with the engine reving and wheels spinning, i said i sliped the clutch out to fast, and controled the car, so it wouldn't spin, they demed it not having full control.... which was a 140 or so fine, no demerit points, ive had this fine many a time, but if i actaully said, yes i meant to do that then it would be seen as reckless driving, and therefore you go to court for that one... and like 6 demerit points....

ive had that fine many times, espcially when i had a 180rwkw silvia, and a tight rear LSD....

also,

So because the rear wheel is spinning, you're deemed to have no control?
not no control, but not full control... but yer im sure a police officer would just say why didn't you put tracting control on, or my best one was you have a manual, why didn't you just put the cluctch back in....

hehe, well it's a good excuse, i'll have to keep it in mind

my car's at the roadworthy place where it received its rwc when i bought it, so hopefully things are ok (i'm thinking since the car has to go to vicroads they might care more about the rust? if they say its a problem i'll probably just wait till after my exams and grind the spots down, bog it, then paint it with a roller and that rustrolem stuff, there's a place in bayswater that is ment to sell it, and i'm interested to try it out). i put my stock lights back in and dam you can't see anything!

i'm wondering if they will care about my centre console not being held down...and the screen, ohwell if they do care it wont take long to change that back, time to study :s

well i got the report back, he said he didn't bother putting in that i'd been in for the initial roadworthy, so this way i have however long i want...it seems like a pretty long list considering this same place gave it a rwc 30,000kms ago...

front rack boots split

cam seal leaking

engine + trans oil leak (knew this)

centre exhaust mounts loose

front wheel bearings loose (already knew this one)

front flexible brake lines perished

headlight wiring not secure

front ball joints U/S (undersize? how can a joint b undersize?)

air cleaner pre-heat tube missing (whats this?)

LH number plate light n/w (knew this)

front brake pads U/S

front disc rotors undersize

rhf wheel bearing noisy

fuel pump fitting loose

brake master cylinder leaking

rust spots in doors and guards (said this isn't a real issue, would be best if i painted over it though)

windscreen shipped and sandblasted (same as when i bought it so thats annoying as it passed then, to which he said well for the actual rwc they might let some stuff slip depending how much is wrong etc)

clutch + brake pedal rubbers (they are cracked and kinda falling off)

handbrake adjustment

rear speakers and wires not secured (hehe i like this one, he said my gaffa tape wasn't enough  i was going to pull them off before hand but was interested to see what was said, surprisingly nothing was said about the screen so thats good, just the fact all the wires are everywhere still)

steering wheel loose (already knew this one)

RH seat belt frayed (how much r these? its the retracting sort)

gear lever boot split (been going to buy one of these for ages)

and wiper blades

so i guess i knew the steering was screwed, would the rack boots be included in that susspension energy bush kit?

i've been thinking about the vt front brake upgrade or one of the toyota ones. so it looks like its time to do something about that, but does it need to be engineered or anything like that? the guy there said it'd probably be best to just get the defect out of the way and then do whatever...but seems like a waste of money buying new rotors

how do you fix up the leaks? and the loose exhaust mounts and fuel pump?

one thought is to just buy another cheap car for now and wait till i have the money to drop another motor into the car, which would require a better fuel pump and new exhaust but seems a bit extreme...i've come across a 2nd gen crx for $1300 like on the side of a road...no rego or rwc...it seems to run ok, but could be in the same situation again so ? but from looking on ebay my thought is someone would be happy to pay more than that for it, so if it were to have another large list of issues i could just give that a shot, since even the trade in price on redbook is like 3g min

This guys really gone to town on the RWC! You can fix most of that stuff yourself just spend some cash and get the other stuff fixed eslsewhere. This guy see's your young and his aim is to make some money assuming you tell him yeah fix it all up!!! Open check style. Sounds like the car needs a bit of attention so just fix it up. Buying a second car whilst fixing a Zed is not a good idea if you think it will save you money, especially if it's an older car you'll just end up spending money on it to keep it on the road.

he was actully pretty nice and didn't ask if i wanted to book it in or anything, just said i have as long as i want, and good luck clearly the defect! what r u doing with ur stock rotors sulio? hehe! nah i want an upgrade anyway, i just needa work out the best one that fits under stock rims, sounds like a challenge...someone told me that vt's fit under 14" wheels, so i guess i'll pull off one of my parents vx wheels and c if it clears everything before it hits the studs...

so it looks like i'll have to hire a trailer a bit or tow my car places to get the work done on it between me working on it and doing what i can, the main things are brakes and steering which i was wanting to fix up these hols along with new bushes everywhere and put the koni's and king springs in, so that covers a fair bit of the list, just a pity i have these exams so i'm gonna have to wait till after my rego gets susspended...i wonder if i can get it susspended now as after sunday i can't drive it anyway unless its on its way to a shop, which i dont have time to organise anyway

well atleast i've learnt one thing, make sure you have legal tyres on your car at all times! so atleast that way cops have to hunt more for something to screw you on, once again, if it was a few weeks later i would of had new ones on there...but was waiting till after exams! one of them had a slow leak and everything...since i have my headlights out, anyone want them? driving home in the fog tonight sure was difficult without them, i dont know how you ppl do it! must eat alot of carrot or something hehe

the plan is for my gf to buy a new car (shes been wanting a smaller nice one for ages) and i'll drive the one i just replaced the alternator in, yay an auto cressida! if only public transport didn't suck in my area...it'd take me about 2 hours to get to work, and thats if they meet up properally

Yeah, I'm after some headlights for my 240.

Are these interchangable with 260?

And does anyone know the difference between the front bumper on the 240 and 260.

Cheers,

Jack.

Hi

Seems he was tough, bummer eh.

What is the risk if you go back with non standard items like VT rotors etc would they pass?

yeah i asked him, and he didn't know if they needed engineers or what, but someone out there with upgraded brakes must know ?

i just dont see the point in buying new rotors since i was wanting to upgrade anyway...alot of what is on the list isn't needed to pass the roadworthy, but he just gave a rundown of what he can see wrong with it, i'd like to get it all fixed anyway.

the lights are just 7" round ones, and i am pretty sure the bucket bracket bit is the same...in saying i'd sell them i still plan on going back to hid projectors as soon as my car is back on the road, i could live without them for a bit, but not long! i've been thinking of changing over to stanley projectors instead of bosch ones, so if someone does want this retro fit i'd sell it to fund "upgrading"...even though they are all the same brightness...just thought i'd see if someone wanted them since they are sitting here doing nothing for now, me and my bro r thinking of making my dad's company branch out into doing hid retrofits and car computers...but i'm busy enough!

atm i have enough to just pay to get it all fixed i guess...but i'd like to do as much as possible myself, and would like it done right the first time. so i'll just wait till after exams and try to manage in the mean time, just my income during the holidays will be limited if i can't get to my workplace!

yeah i asked him' date=' and he didn't know if they needed engineers or what, but someone out there with upgraded brakes must know ?[/quote']

Unless the upgraded parts were available as a factory bolt-on for that model (IOW a factory option) an engineers certificate is required.

Oh and 'U/S' = unserviceable, meaning the parts are worn out or below specified minimum limits.

I'd be interested to know where the leaking cam seal is as L-series engines don't have any (I assume he means the rocker cover gasket or the small front cover gasket or some other gasket).

Posted

thanks lambs, my dad pointed that out to me, and was going to update it so i didn't look like a dumbass, but to late now

would bolting zg flares on also require one? since even though its a factory option it wasn't one in australia? just thinking since the correct way to do them is to cut into the metal undoing it for a rwc would be kinda hard, or could you just stick stock sized wheels back on as the body work wouldn't matter?

i had this happen about 2 months ago and they just got me for the tyres but i had things like break lights and wipers that they did'nt pick up on, just take it to a tyre joing and tell them that you just need to get the car back on the road, i just took it to a tyre joint, now worries!

PM Me if you want the place i took it

in terms of upgrades and roadworthiness....

I have to read this again because it was 6 months ago or so..but i recall something along the lines of (for brakes) if it appears well engineered and works within the limits, you may not need one (i remember being shocked b/c i was about ready to call an engineer)......

Not entirely sure tho.

i guess it comes down to if they wanna screw you over or not? i'm really interested in upgrading the brakes, but i needa look into the engineers thing more first i guess, so i'm going to make a few calls etc, it depends if i just wanna get it on the road fast or what, pretty hard to make up my mind, from driving other various cars in the mean time i sure miss the feel, and particually the torque of the zed, even the smell possibily :D as stock rotors are only $60 each or so, and i'm trying to sort out the rubber bits that need replacing off ebay, just working out which one is cheaper after shipping so waiting for them to reply.

against my better judgement hehe, i bought that crx, it should b on the road by the end of the weekend. my dad seems pretty keen to have it as after 350,000kms and a second engine, basically everything in his car (89 4wd corolla) is dead, and my mate who's doing stupid stuff to one of these crx's is keen to buy it off me too for his daily driver so atleast it isn't a loss of money if i change my mind and get the zed on the road asap. here's some pics of the two together, the zed sure is nicer in every single way...as you can c the rear bumper is pushed in on the crx, so i'll have to pull it back out sometime, it should b a fair bit cheaper to run being 1.6 litres and all, and have 3rd party fire theft on it for $200.

i was wanting to try out the rolling paint thing on it, although after a wash it looked a fair bit nicer, and with a cut and polish on some parts it should look better again. so i'll just test it out on my rust free doors that are in primer :D then do black on the bottom of the zeds doors after i've bogged it

I don't know Evan, you might get hooked on that Honda noise - my mate has a CRX with nothing more than a cold air intake on it, and the sound it makes from about 4,000rpm up to over 6,500 is pretty addictive - and distinct.

Posted

yeah i haven't really driven it yet as the clutch in it was screwed as (it's been replaced now) but it does sound different up higher, not as good as the zed does though 8) a hair dryer is a good word for it hehe. my mates putting a k20a in his (type r or s engine) so i think its gonna b about as fast as you could make one of these things be, but even the stock engine can probably make the front wheels spin easy enough, surposedly 96kws in a 880kg car, so i'll c how it goes and bring it on a cruise for a joke hehe, i dont c y someone would buy one of these over say ur brothers mr2, particually 3rd gen crx's over the newer mr2's...

i was in my mates accord yesterday and he was trying to show me vtec doing something, but we could barely work out where it actully kicked in yo, hehe, i belive there is a fuel efficent version of vtec then a performance sort which varies the cam also? i was in my cousins type-r and i was surprised at the difference vtec made, it sure has a high redline!

not sure whats happening with the zed, have a few weeks to work it out, either way its a project! i'd really like to get a 1jzed happening in time for me getting off my p's at the end of the year, but needa weigh it all up more, and my dad's trying to convince me its a waste of money (so he can have the crx i think, although he says its too low so you can't see whats happening in traffic, but it aint any lower than a zed so ?) ultimately i'd like the gt4 in the bg of the bottom pic fixed and my dad to swap me it for the crx :D

Posted

crx for daily, zed for weekend,...

but id be looking in engineers before u think of 1j as laws are chaging for engine swaps as of june 30.....

just don't do what i did and come extremly time poor and don't have no time at all to work on the Z..... before i had no money no i don't care about the cash to spend on the Z i just want it.... u'll miss it, the crx is good, actaully was one of the cars i wanted when i was like 16, but is underpowered unless u go b16a, which are old now anyway.... but yer GET SOME COILOVERS, AND A EXHAUST AND FILTER and u'll love it.... semi slicks do wonerds to hondas, matters if u wanna throw cash at it thou

Posted

dam laws changing in 7 days huh? yeah its one of the things i needa look into...where have you heard about it from?

its not that most exciting video but it sure has enough power :D

someone's selling a set of 14X6 type r watanabes that will fit on the crx, i was thinking atleast one of my cars should have wats, but i know i shouldn't! plus there's no dish ofcourse on them. there is a scratch kinda dent down the passenger side door of the car, and i want to bash it out, bog and paint it with that orange paint to give it a shot, and some of the interior is really worn so i was going to fix that up a bit ricey style, but then if my dads gonna drive it i dont think he'd like it to much!!!

i reakon anyone who loves crx's should get the import SiR ones as then u get that b16a, rear seats, even if they are a joke for people over 10yrs old they might come in handy sometime, and a glass roof which is pretty cool for its time[/url]

yer i was looking to get a sir from jap, when i was looking for a daily, but found $500 was cheaper than 8k plus compliance haha....

but they handle awesome and have plenty of power out of a b16a 900kg... leave the car whte.... with some black wheels, and coil overs and ur sorted... stock look heaps better

i was told the laws a changing by a promnant ae86 modifyer, and he knows his shit

Posted

yeah it aint gonna b painted anytime soon, and nothing to extreme if it is. just got the rwc finished on the crx and its being registered tomorrow so that takes alot of pressure off! ended up costing just under $2g so not to bad if u ask me! but it is 2g less that i now have to spend on the zed :(

i dont want to spend a whole heap on the crx but what brand of coilovers would u recommend for it nate since you musta looked into it :D plus from the crx forum their idea of coilovers seems to be just something you need if u have 18" rims on it :S

the braking of the crx is very sensitive, and its all very light feeling compared to the zed, and it doesn't feel like ur actully driving it, but this is just my thoughts after driving it 5kms hehe.
