Pics/tech drawings of DCOE manifolds and efi manifolds

I've scored some GTR RB26 throttle bodies and a plenum and I'm looking at what is required to engineer these to a Z head. The throttle bodies themselves are about 45mm ID and the intake ports on my L28 head are 35mm. This means that the manifold which will have to look similar to one of these: index5.jpg

will have tapered ports. Another thing is the throttle bodies themselves are not equally spaced. They are in three banks of two, where as the DCOE manifold look like the center of each port is exactly the same distance apart across all six ports. The RB26 throttle bodies are spaced (from center of port) 95mm - 105mm - 95mm - 105mm - 95mm etc.

So my question is does anyone have any close up pics, specs or tech drawings of DCOE manifolds or factory efi inlet manifolds such as L24E or L28E so I can see which ones would be easier to track down to chop up in order to make my own custom one?

To be perfectly honist Tim, I'd make my own manifold & use 6 Motorcycle throttle boddies.

It would just be soooo much easier to engineer & just as cheap, over the RB26 setup.

See if you can adapt the RB26 manifold to a triple weber manifold. There's one from Wax on ebay at the moment going for a good price (so far). Compare and measure and do that several times over and over...

Well given that I have a RB26 that is running DCOE throttle bodies I can tell you it is simple to convert from the DCOE to RB26 TB mounting as I have done it but in my case the other way around to what you are talking about. The bore spacing of the RB TB and DCOE is almost the same. Stock DCOE ie 90mm centres but the RB stuff is like 89.7mm. The TB of the RB26 are 44mm but at the little manifold to the head they are like 45mm so almost spot on.

Awesome, so all I need is to buy six of those spacer/adaptors and they'll fit a DCOE manifold. I think efi hardware sell them. Are these the same ones http://www.efihardware.com/products/1188/DCOE-to-IDF-adapter

Not them, the RB spacing is almost an upside down IDF spacing. Have better look at my pics. Mine were/are custom made from 20mm marine grade alloy.

 

Also those adaptors from EFI Hardware are DCOE to IDF ie DCOE at the carb side and IDF at the manifold. You need RB26 at the TB/Carb side and DCOE at the manifold ie the reverse of what I did - ie just counter sink the other holes and put studs on the other :)

You could have the plates/adaptors made thicker and have the injectors located in there thus just allowing you to use a stock L6 intake manifold :) ie you could go back to carbs if you wanted too.

 

Also with regard to the spacing of the RB26 TB's when I was doing mine I still had my 240z with the triple OER 47mm and a spare L6 intake manifold and I can tell you for a fact that the RB26 TB and spacing between each TB was the same as the L6 DCOE intake manifold I had on the bench at the time 8)

 

Also on a side note - the RB26 head exhaust port spacing is almost the same as the original Z432 S20 exhaust port spacing also the differences are 0.?mm One day I might just get some more measurements from a S20 engine installed in a Z432 (or replica ;) that I know of) and see if a set of headers from a S20 could be made to fit my RB with only a head flange change....but that is off topic abit  ;D

 

I am sure any guy with a milling machine or CNC could make you spacer/adaptors like the ones I had done. I took a wood template that I made, the RB26 manifold and a DCOE TB the alloy blocks and a week or two later some nice adaptors were made :)

So you didn't even need to supply the machine shop any drawings, just a wood example of what you wanted.

Yep he did the drawing :) this is why I like using him - give him a sample or just tell him what you want and he makes the wood sample to show me :) however he has now moved out of Auckland so I will have to find another guy - but I think I have already ;)
