About the new regulation that has to do with lowering or raising your car more or less then 5cm?

From august 1st if you lower or raise your car by more than 5 cm you have to pay a $1000 RTA engineering inspection if you don't and you get caught its a $788 fine.

Like always the RTA never think their plans through and people end up getting screwed while the RTA (Government) end up getting rich from fines from unsuspecting drivers.

To be honest polls never work especially when the government is involved unless it suits them, and losing money definitely does not suit them. 

Wait it didn't mention in the paper if its only NSW and that petition talks about the NSW RTA, so since its not affecting other states then i may have to get my Zed from outside NSW  :-\

this is being discussed on a few other forums im on.

 

general consensus is that its stupid and a massive waste of time, as the dipshits its targeting wont actually follow the rules anyway, so again, the people with a genuine interest and respect for the rules get screwed again.

 

as for anything lowered past that point, all you need to do is get an inspection and have the height of the car noted on the inspection.

Once thats done, there is record within the RTA that your car was done before the rules came in.

it wont save you from getting hassled, but it'll save having the $788 fine stick.

 

So far, this rule change is for NSW ONLY, but im sure it'll eventually catch on in other states.

I drove a lowered classic Datsun 240z and the cops don't even look at me.

 

We will see how it goes...Rudd has to get that $900 back somehow..

Ive heard from people who have actually called the RTA and asked about this, and the people they have spoken to at the RTA know next to nothing about it. According to a recent conversation with the RTA, they said it was only a rumor..

 

even so, officer please prove i lowered my car after August 1st.. oh and prove that its not the stock height.

 

Does this mean police will now have to carry specifications on EVERY model vehicle, so that they can actually prove its lowered?

 

doesnt sound like it will be working very well to me, unless ofcourse they do the old power trip and slot in there "to the officers discretion" which will then lead to "I think thats lowered too bad" scenarios.

The old general rule of measure was a coke can height of clearance and it would pass...

The rule should state the height from the tyre to the guard...I hate these Commodore's or Yanky Cyrsler 300C with 20-22inch rims where the guard almost covers the tyre...I would have thought this would be dangerous.

 

If you are going to increase the height by more than 5 cm, it should be accepted as Famers need 4x4 for their property and also travel...also club off roading vehicles need it as well.

 

So yes, the gov putting regulations on lowered cars that are seen as unsafe or not set up with the right suspension seems ok if they are causing accidents and hurting people....if they have no evidence of this then typical labor government's red tape revenue raising w@ankers.

yeah this is been discussed in other forums as well....

 

just to add few things regarding someones comments about cars lowered with IRS and killing diff alignement tailshaft. ermmmm its directly bolted it doesnt move. as for driveshafts well i still havent managed to kill one.

 

to my defence my car is 2" lowered all around and been like that since i got it. not to say it sticks to the road and doesnt wobble like titanic (and yes i got more than 10cm clearance under the car) alignment has been checked and all si good.

 

same car my mate has gone to 2.5" and still hasnt ripped or destroyed anything nor does the car feel unsafe. he does have proper suspension with same travel as original. so there are people out there that do the right thing.

 

but ive seen commodores falcons and all sorts of jap cars lowered to their bumpstops acting as absorbers. stupidity.

rear camber on irs commodores so exessive that is almost using the sidewall.

 

here in SA they measure from center of the wheel to the edge of the lip. on newer cars they have all the info post 86 cars to compare how much its lowered by. some older cars will still get away with it as long as its not 10cm or lower on the lowest point of the car. including hoses and cables anything hanging is the lowest part.

 

i agree this wont stop much besides being revenue and hassling people doing the right thing.

 

dimwits will still be cutting springs with oxy set or to an extreem ive seen even removing the spring all together. they should be banned from driving for life.

Yeah i have to agree that sometimes people go way too far and i reckon that 2 inches either up or down  is quite reasonable except its unfair for those that are into off-roading, but then again they are probably the most dangerous, i have seen 4x4 which are just ridiculous.

im all for getting the morons off the road, and yea, i think that minitrucks driving along with thier asses scraping is rediculous, fine for shows though.

i see the 4x4 guys getting reamed by this, but i also see a possible outcome from it.

I have no problem with blokes who wanna mod thier cars for off road events. they are fun to watch.

I do have a problem with those blokes using the same cars for daily driver uses.

its not practical for the street, its not safe in an impact (im sure it can be made safe for handling ect)

I would be happy to see a reduced rate of rego for 4x4 owners who have specific regoed vehicles, using them as part of a registered club for sanctioned events or off road trips.

in the end though, as has been said on many forums, modifiers are a minority and we are competing with the brainless morons who watch ACA. Enjoy the time while it lasts.

 

at the end of the day though, i am a firm beleiver that if it is done properly and passed by a qualified engineer (not a minister who thinks he knows best) then it is safe to be on the road with everyone else.

Lower centre of gravity = Safer - fact. Sign the petition get in your local pm's face that's what I'm doing and it is a sill rule that is never going to be policed and by God the uproar if they do. Also side note NSW Rta not K.Rudd or government, we are yet to see his position :-\.

A car with a lower center of gravity will still handle better than one with a higher center of gravity and  if this is some stupid reaction to some dickhead and his 4wd then that only furthers the case for this unrefined useless rule. In which cars that didn't comply would be given a defect notice engineered or not. "Vehicles modified beyond the limits specified in this VSI No. 50 will not be registered for unrestricted use on roads and road-related areas in NSW." Straight from the VSI 50 pray to god it gets ammended.

Okay.. First off, it's ridiculous... The pollies tried to pass this under the radar but the papers picked up on it and now its been delayed untill a proper report is done. My car is heaps low, infact, it's a little to low for my liking but i don't see why i should then be forced to pay 1k$ if i wanted to change the height of it anymore.... 5cm is not much....

 

Mr Rud is really starting to piss me off. When he was elected, the whole campaign he barely answered people questions and just 'stepped around them'.. Now he's giving everyone free money but making it back 2 months later...

 

Also, lowering our cars makes the handling much better :S my car is safer down low than when it was higher!!!

Pardon my ignorance but I thought this was a State government idea, not Federal and as such would have nothing to do with K Rudd.  If you have a gripe with him about something else, fair enough, but unless I am mistaken (as I often am), he has nothing to do with this proposal.
