roastbeef Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Picked this up yesterday at the local WH smith. great article on a spectacular car! I find most articles in classic car magazines frustratingly unfulfilling when it comes to featuring 240z's. Usually some rehashed history snatched from google and an uninspiring rundown on spec lists etc. This car however has enough history and anally retentive detail to restoration(i mean this in a good way) to make a great and informative read. 68GTCS Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 Is it okay to upload a scan of the article? can do it on lunch as I'm in the office today. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 10, 2009 Administrators Posted July 10, 2009 Is it okay to upload a scan of the article? can do it on lunch as I'm in the office today. As much as I'd love to read it (I could find it last night I went to 3 stores where they have lots of magazines) its a new article and I would rather it not appear as a scan here. If it were an old out of print out of publication article from the 70's no problem, but for a new article in a new magazine there are copyright issues etc.. Quote
68GTCS Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 Understood, They are normally available for a couple of weeks air freight if you can spring the hefty 16 bucks or in a couple of months as normal mail at about 9 dollars. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 The car has been discussed over at czc.com http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34995 Quote

I finally managed to get my hands on a copy. I must say I loved the read, but I wanted more much more! . I absolutely love the detail that went into the car, especially the exhaust system, amazing! Alan T got a mention too for finding those spot lights which was good to see. All the intricate differences in the rally version are really interesting. I would have loved to see more detailed photos of all the unique things on the car. Instead we got a few pics and that was it. All the same it was a good read and I'd recommend everyone get a copy . Gav, I agree that ideally there would have been much more in the article. They took some fantastic studio photos, but didn't use very many of them and spoiled what they did use by putting that weird green tinted background onto them with a computer ( why??? ).......... If you can hunt one down, the December 2006 issue of NOSTALGIC HERO Magazine ( vol.118 ) has a six page article on the car that contains about 55 detailed photos and a lot more detailed writing on the subject. It's part of a 16 page section that they came to the UK especially to work on, and which I was pleased to have had the honour of coordinating for them. My good friend Hideki Matsui of NP35 came too, and I took them to see Kevin's car and the LY-engined works '73 RAC car of Gary Hicks. Compare the two features and you can see the different philosophies between the likes of OCTANE and NOS HERO. The Japanese mag is much more interested in detail, detail, detail, but still captures so much more spirit than the British mag. Nos Hero's photographer Isao Yatsui insisted on climbing up on to the roof of Kevin's garage to get some shots ( more difficult than it sounds, and quite funny when we couldn't get him down again ), and they even included a nice shot of Kevin's pet cat Basil...... I made a thread about the Nostalgic Hero magazine coverage over on classiczcars.com when it came out. I think you should be able to find it with the SEARCH function, so you might like to have a peep. Yes I do recall something along those lines on CZC. I thought they might be the same car, but I wasn't sure. I might try and get in touch with Alfadog (lachlan), he usually sells Nostalgic Hero on ebay, the only problem with the articles is that they are in Japanese. I guess I'll have to learn Japanese . HS30-H Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 .....the only problem with the articles is that they are in Japanese. But the pictures are in English....... Even without being able to read Japanese, magazines like Nos Hero are still more informed about these cars and more informative than the English language mags. You'll probably understand more about the car from just the pics and pic captions in the Nos Hero article than the whole Octane article. Please don't shy away from it with any kind of "I can't read that" complex. I found a similar thing with the article that Classic & Sports Car did on my KPGC10. They took some nice photos, printed them BIG ( to the point of spreading one pic over two pages, which is a complete waste of space and a good photo I reckon ) and got a lot of details wrong even after I had corrected them three times. That article was just eye candy, really. Quote

Please don't shy away from it with any kind of "I can't read that" complex. Don't worry I won't shy away from them at all. In fact I've got a couple of issues thanks to Lachlan and I absolutely love looking at the pictures of some of the Japanese cars. In particular I love seeing the period wheels available and fitted to some of these cars and their respective styles. Infact I'm actually serious about learning Japanese, I've been considering doing it for a while and there is nothing like a hobby or interest to help you keep enthusiasm with learning a new language. While its great to see pictures in a magazine I really enjoy reading the articles provided they don't lack substance . I found a similar thing with the article that Classic & Sports Car did on my KPGC10. The KPGC10 feature was in the April 2009 edition of CLASSIC & SPORTS CAR magazine. It had a Merc SL on the front cover. I think you'll have to hunt it down as a back issue now..... Quote
68GTCS Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Old mate keeps them all, I'll get him to dig it out. Quote
