Administrators gav240z Posted June 22, 2009 Administrators Posted June 22, 2009 Check the heater tap. I'd say its more than likely you have a leaking heater and the water has built up at the back on the passenger seat. Quote
HELLFIRE! Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Has your car been out in the rain? The cowl in front of the windscreen could have it's drain plugs full of crud. If this is the case, water will be coming in through the firewall. Quote
chris240 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 also check around the hatch hinge...did you wash the car with a hose that day ? water can get in around the hinge pocket and pool up behind the seat...happened to mine Quote
S30Mike Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 Its been raining here for basically the last month hard everyday. i have stripped out the carpets and shoved towles in to keep absorbing the moisture. Gav - im not sure where or what the heater tap is? I found this morning one of the seals on the front of the passenger side door is cracked a little bit so maybe thats where its getting in. I will investigate more after wrok. Im really worried about rusting happening, what measures should i take to stop this? Quote
sexual_sushi Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 If you have taken all of the carpets and lining out and its just the bare metal you should find it easier to see where the leaks are coming from. If it has stopped raining just put a hose over it and you should actually be able to see where it runs down the walls etc. There should be a heap of drain plugs in the floor you can pull out and let the water drain out. Everyones suggestions so far are spot on. Mine leaks.... From the windscreen cowl, the panel rusted through where the wiper motor sits From the passenger door, the rubber is pretty rooted From the hatch around the hinges, haven't had a good look at this but I'd assume there's just a rust hole around the hatch hinges (I noticed drops of water on the back seat). From between the door frame and the 1/4 glass, the rubber is gone there Quote
twosixty Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I doubt it would be the heater tap, it is on the drivers side from memory, making it difficult for any leaking water to make it to the passenger side over the trans tunnel. I vote the hatch seal. Quote
nuclear_z Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 my bet is the hatch seal... the water drips down... I had this issue and investigated... basically just had to restick the hatch seal. Quote
S30Mike Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 thanks for the advice guys, ive got a few avenues to check tonight now. Most thing im worried about is the floor pan getting rusted by the way there is like a glued down rubber substance on top of the metal.. Quote
nuclear_z Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 on top of the metal where? on the floor? or the deck seal? Quote
Brabham Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Hey Mike, The same thing happened to my Mk1, it had about 10 litres of water in it. :'( For me it was the rear hatch seal (which I have not got around to fixing yet). 260s originally had rubber seals around the hatch hinge pockets although these are hard to find and the foam glued around the top of where the hatch sits. Spray it with a hose and see where it leaks. P.S. Historics on this Sunday at Oran Park. Quote
S30Mike Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 Alrighty, update I stripped the whole rear, all carpets and took the rear seats out.. found a monumental amount of water sitting in the spare tyre well, so cleared that out first the traced the water to the left of the hatch, and heres what i found.. the water was being redirected into the car because leaves and gunk had banked up the section between the hatch seal and the metal, so essentially it acted as a dam. This combined with the seal glue being worn away, made ALL the water coming down off the roof go straight under the seal at the dam and into the car. The water got under the carpet and flowed down behind the rear seats and either ended up in the rear footwell, or went into the spare tyre well. So, i have Re sealed the hatch as the rubber seal is still in very good nick, i used some sealant glue i had and it seems to have bonded well. there is some surface rust in the tyre well that i will brush with wire brush and then spray with chassis black. whew, so it seems the crisis has been averted.. for now Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 23, 2009 Moderators Posted June 23, 2009 We could've used that water here in Melbourne. You're zed had more water than our dams! You zed was on the news; Sydney Zed dam level....75%! Quote
sco_aus Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Pull the bungs out in the bottom for now, you at least want to make sure it has somewhere to drain. Get some heaters in there to evaporate it from all the little crevasses as well as the carpets. Good luck Quote
