nizm0zed Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 hi, i need a clip from a corner of someone's shell they are wrecking. It can be from a 2 seater or a 2+2, that particular part of the panel is the same between both models. Its really not that hard, just a few cuts from an angle grinder, but so far nobody seems willing or capable. I need the cut to be at least 10cm into the panel, as this will give me enough to work with. It also needs to go down at least to the bumper. once cut off, the section should fit into something about the size of a shoebox, so postage should be quite easy. i am willing to pay for your time to go and cut it off too, so if you have something available, pm me with what you want for it. Thanks, Alan. Quote
C.A.R. Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Al, that would be very easy to panel beat out... Quote
nizm0zed Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 would you like to come do it for me? I'll pay your bus fare up and back its double skinned behind the join between the rear quarter, and the tail light surround, its quite difficult to get into. So far, every 'skilled' person i have gotten to look at it has said that it would be easier and quicker for them to strip the whole panel off and replace it. Or just fill it with bog. The picture doesnt do the damage justice. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 lol @ skilled mig welder and a slide hammer will get that out if u cant reach from the inside. Quote
nizm0zed Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 im not surprised at your comment. i got the impression from people that they just couldn't be bothered. Quote
xa1973 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 lol @ skilled mig welder and a slide hammer will get that out if u cant reach from the inside. Ditto.... If it doesn't come in a box from China pre primed and ready to fit....... Some of these jokers today wouldnt have a clue what a slide hammer is....... Quote

Sirpent Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Guys, Lurch is right it isn’t a hard fix if you have the patience to attack it logically. Even if it’s double panelled it shouldn’t deter you from trying, think about it this way, if you do do a cut section you won’t be replacing both the inner gusset and outer skin, that would mean a lot of welding in places you wouldn’t even be able to get a MIG head into. If you cut away the damaged section, and unpluck any spot welds, this will give you full access to repair the impacted cut section, welding it back would be no different than what you would have to undertake with a sectionised repair. nizm0zed Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 a hammer for slides? Bastard file.......file with no Dad? oh by the way I have a left handed screw driver if anyone wants one....it no good to me as I am right handed. i'll take that screwdriver off your hands, im ambidexterous. now i'll be able to screw things with both hands at once and i allways thought it was called a bastard file becasue thats what you'd call it when the handle fell off, and you slipped and stabbed yourself with the tang. but seriously, excuse my ignorance. How would you use the slide hammer? Drill a hole and pull it out? Weld a bolt to it and pull with that? maybe i should take some more detailed photos and post it up in the body section, there is some real pain in the a$$ folds in the steel there. I dont know how easy it would be to get out, even for a pro. I guess if i do a body thread, i can use the suggestions to 'attempt' to make it worse and you can all laugh at the mayhem. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 there few ways of doing it. but being the tightly folded its fairly stuborn area. so drilling a hole and trying to move it with screw type slide hammer is waste of time. also need a bit heavier slide hammer. most of my stuff i weld a plate that has mutiple holes for slide hammer to grab on. than start smacking it out. option two is to drill a hole ie to fit a 6mm bolt. use or make a elongated thick washer on the inside. again u need a hook up point for the slide hammer. prob with holes u got to weld them up. hence i like tack welding on few spots. than hammering it out cut the welds off and grind the excess of with the sander. and job is almost done. Also bigger job but just as easy is what serpant/John sugested. u can make ur own slide hammer just visit the metal scrap places. ive got 4 different sizes. small one for light metal to a heavy duty 5kg job one. all home made. i bought a shop one cheapy i guess but it fell apart. be carefull not to stick you hand between the weight and the stop. IT HURTS. Quote
chris240 Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Alan , you work in Fyshwick !! theres a panel beater on every corner .. did you see the guys at O'farrel smash repairs on Isa street, down the laneway.. and there is also an excellent body repairer (old school blokes) to the left of Edwards smash repairs, down the driveway on collie street, its an old Galvanised shed and I recall seeing and old 356 porsche being restored...ask the receptionist at Edwards to point you in the right direction.. nizm0zed Posted May 29, 2009 Author Posted May 29, 2009 yea, i know. but quite a few dont want to do the job, the car is currently unregoed and undriveable and if i can save some money then i can spend it elsewhere on the car. so far quotes for the job (had it looked at 12 months ago) are averaging around the $1000 mark. again, i dont know if its just high ball quotes to discourage me from wanting to get them to do the job. anyways, corner repair thread. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,4482.msg40648.html#new Quote
