Hi I was just wondering if anyone had seen a 1uz conversion in a zed before?

The pics I have seen of the vh/vk45 setups look a little tight for my liking so I thought the Toyota engine might be a good option. Also cheap, easy to get and strongish.

Anyone seen it done?

Cheers

Thanks Lurch, got any installed engine bay pics? I suppose if I fit a 1uz I won't be needing that engine x member I got off you last week, oh well. Any news on the R3x front end conversion?

Micheal from Canberra (forgot his username  :() is 1/2 way thru this rebuild now. Ive seen the 240 in the flesh with the motor in place. Car is on his rotisserie. Simon (rhino73z) has also seen the car. looks very sweet in the zeds engine bay.

Great conversion IMHO...

have you considered a ls1 holden v8 dearer to buy though they are getting cheaper with more becoming avaliable from wrecked commodores can get with 6 speed manual more hp in std trim than toyota v8 and if you want more  hp huge aftermarket supply of parts and tuning just idea to consider

i am biased though as i have fitted ls1 to my 240z

The LS1 and six-speed t56 weigh only 15 kg more than the original 240Z engine and gearbox. When the LS1/t56 is set back in the bay, all 15 kg ends up on the rear wheels.

Cost wise - I bought a 2005 VZ SS Ute at salvage for $5200 and sold the unwanted (and undamaged) bits for $2400 on eBay. The LS1(335bhp), t56, LSD diff, loom, etc, owes me $2,800 - cheap as chips.

I would love to put an LS1 in however I rate the t56 as one of the worst gearboxes I have ever driven. Although they hold the power without an issue, they shift like a top loader.

If I could use an R33 gearbox with an LS1, I would do it.

I have been looking at 3UZ's in japan, 4.3 liter, and they seem pretty cheap. Just add a blower. I had my heart set on the vk56 conversion until I had a look at this http://www.flzclub.com/vk56de/

It's just too large for the engine bay.
