Hey everybody, my names Luke and I recently bought my first car, a 280zx 2+2. I've never really been interested in cars, even a little bit. Then while I was searching on eBay for a first car to buy I stumbled on a 260z and fell in love... Now i'm thinking of going to Uni to be a designer and hopefully get to work on designing cars! All thanks to the Z series, lol.

So anyway, it's in pretty good condition. Only a little bit of rust on the back near the tail lights, a bit of paint chipped off the front spoiler, and the hand break doesn't work very well :P, but other than that it's in good condition! I'm planning to get the rust cut out fairly soon (Once I have enough money).

I attached some pics of the car. I also have 1 question: See the black window-separator... "thingy" (Sorry, I don't know the technical term) inside the red circle I drew? Well it's kind of coming off, but I don't want to pull it completely off in case I can't figure out how to put it back on. Does anyone know how to take it off & put it on properly? Also I  noticed some of the 280zx's (Series 1 I think) actually had metal their instead of black plastic... Is it possible to replace the black ones with the metal ones, and if so, where would you even find the metal ones?

Hey Luke,

Well done on getting a Z as your first car. Sounds like a great buy. How much did it set you back?

How do you enjoy driving it? Got any plans for the car apart from being a daily? Sorry I can't give you any advice relating to the black panel, but I'm sure someone here can help you out.

It might be worth checking out black dragon auto (american Z parts site) to see if they sell it.

I almost forgot, welcome to AusZcar.

I like the colour!

Welcome to the site, there's a few 280zx members here who'll probably have heaps of info for you.

Designing cars would be my second choice as a career, good luck with it!

The B-pillar cover attaches from the inside.  If I remember correctly, you need to take off the interior B-pillar trim and undo the two nuts accessed from holes in the B-pillar. There might be 2 screws as well, it's been a while.  I thought they were all plastic, mine were chromed plastic, I just painted them black.

Nice looking zx, have fun!  Intake, exhaust and Megasquirt it!  ;D

Hello and Welcome

Another 280zx owner, Excellent!!

If its a 79, the cover will have two plastic stalks that push in to recievers , due to its age they may and more than likely will snap when you attempt to remove it, but can be replaced or repaired

However yours looks like a series 11

Allzed will have most if not all the parts you need, NOS and GSH @ 0410549070

Cheers

Hey again everyone. Thanks for the kind words ;).

The car set me back $3400. It's done 180k's but it doesn't miss a beat and fires up first time every time, and it's absolutely awesome to drive. It feels so weird when I get in mums car now ;D. I plan on fixing it up (not in the short term, but long term), but not really racing or anything like that. I might end up buying another Z in the future for that :P.

Thanks for the info on the B-Pillars (And for telling me the technical term  ;D), I'll check it out this afternoon. I also searched the net, as far as I can tell the chromed ones are interchangeable with the non-chromed ones, but finding a pair of chrome ones may be hard...

Also how often do you see old Z cars on the road? I've only ever seen 3 (And I've been on the lookout for the past 4 months). I saw 2 300zx's (the older style) within about 300 metres of each other the day we went to buy mine, and an orange 260z (I think) passed us on the way back from getting some new tyres. Other than that, nothing! Is it because you guys are hoarding all of them ;)?
