Does anyone have a set of door trims that already have holes cut into them, or are slightly damaged? Just putting out feelers as I am planning my setup. Quote
zedevan Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Depending on the 'pod' u use to mount them they might impose on leg room? and in order for them to sit flush on the door you have to cut into the inner door skin I think some tweeters mounted behind the airvents on the sides of the dash might fill the gap nicely Anyone know if 240z panels fit onto 260z doors? As the carbon ones made by the person in America are dam sexy, and if the AUD and postage didn't suck they would b nice Quote

Are you 100% sure I will have to cut into the inner door skin (i'm assuming this means the metal part of the door) to mount any speakers? I just know that I would get much better sound having some speakers up the front rather than just the 2 6x9s in the rear panel... Would the two tweeters go far to solving my problem and are they hard to mount behind those air vents? I might be willing to part with mine as they have been cut for speaker holes. zedevan Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 240z and 260z door trims look slightly different and have different handles, but I'm interested to know if the physical shapes will fit on each others doors Regarding the inner door skins needing to be cut, it would depend on the depth of the speaker and how bit the pod is you use to space it off the door (and angle it up to your ears) as there is metal directly behind the trim - I stupidly just realized one of the rust free doors I bought for my car has an extra hole cut in it for a speaker, so I can only assume this was done to make the speaker sit flush so not to impose on leg room Since it's only the high frequencies which have trouble when not in line of sight I think tweaters up the front behind the airvents would work well, I haven't tried it in the zed but the vents r ment to simply pull out, and a couple of my mates had 6x9's with tweeters up the front in their cars and it fixed the sound coming from behind feeling quite alot, and tweeters are cheapish anyway! (unless titanium etc lol) Quote

RBZ 260 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 speakers and stereo pihhhh just extra weight. wan't music? lower the windows and press the right foot down bit more and u got the best music in town. only reason i have radio in my car is to listen where the speed cameras and traffic jams are. though i only run 2x 6X9 behind the seats and does feel bit empty towards the front. since im making custom door trims i will integrate the pods for front speakers. but im not installing 2ton DLS splits, just simple but quality 2 or 3 way 6" or most probably on the end i wouldn't even bother. getting the colour changed or rejuvenated is easy. buy VIPONDS Taut Flex and paint them any colour u want. its very easy. zedevan Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 u could get spares of the air vents and modify them (I don't feel air out of them anyway) or make up a rectangular plate you can shove in there? I think they come withsome mounting hardware so u could just screw into the inside of the dash inside the vent? In terms of wiring I think u can just give them the front signal from the headunit, but just ask jb hifi when u go to buy them. I think the key is to buy decent tweeters, I was surprised (the first time) when I found out it was all they were running Quote

DPO put these in the doors of the 280zx You said these were 240z trims right? They look similar to my 260z ones but I can't check at the moment since I'm in central Queensland. Evan you said the handles are different between 240 and 260z? Will there be any cutting to make these fit? apart from the obvious round cut into the inner door skin. They pretty much look like what I want and I could still run the tweeters behind my air vents to get the whole 'splits' thing. That would be a good option right? Quote
