mtopxsecret6 Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 As the title says.. if the 240 was the fairlady in jpan.. and the 240z in americo.. would the 260 still be classified as the fairlady? considering its just just an updated model of the s30 series? I believe it is. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 20, 2008 Moderators Posted November 20, 2008 In Japan, all zeds were known as Fairlady's. I'm sure even upto the 350Z. Correct me if I'm wrong on that one..... Quote
mtopxsecret6 Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 thats good stuff.. i like to hear that Quote
luvemfast Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 They are all Fairlady's. Not specific to any one model. Same as a Commodore or Falcon. Even the Roadsters wore the Fairlady badge didn't they? Quote
NZeder Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 They are all Fairlady's. Not specific to any one model. Same as a Commodore or Falcon. Even the Roadsters wore the Fairlady badge didn't they? Yes the Roadsters were Fairlady's too. Fairlady Z (two models standard and deluxe ie the S30 2000cc twin SU powered cars) Fairlady Z 432 (two models standard and the R version. The R vesion a striped down special for racing, lexan windows, fibre glass bonnet, deleted trim, heater, clock, wiring harness....the list goes on but key is the S20 DOHC 2000cc engine with triple carbs standard) Fairlady Z (S31 body aka same body as the late 260z, EFI version, two mobels standard and deluxe) Fairlady 240z (two models I think, standard 240z like we all know and the HS30-H aka ZG version) Fairlady 280z (aka 280zx now I start to loose it as to the models etc) The list goes on and the 350z is still called a Fairlady and I am sure the replacement 370z will also be called a Fairlady in the home market. NZeder Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 ok.. so if i badge my 260 2+2 a fairlady.. im not creating something that wasnt specified from factory? Well yes and no - no as that body existed as the Fairlady but then yes as the GRS30-xxxxxx chassis number was never badged as a Fairlady Z. Now the 260z is something different as Nissan did release a Fairlady 260z and it was badged as such a Fairlady 260z and it did have the GRS30 or RS30 chassis however they were all recalled as the new L26 which powered these cars did not meet the new Japanese emission laws so the recall was to remove the carb'ed L26 and retro fit the L20e (ie 2000cc EFI L20a based engine), there might have been one or two that did manage to evade the recall. I believe the new chassis code S31 was used to show that the engine now meet the emission laws - the small handful Fairlady 260z (both 2 seater and 2+2 versions) that were recalled had their chassis number re-stamped during the repower etc so they all became S31-xxxxx or GS31-xxxxx So Nissan did release a Fairlady 260z but they were recalled and renamed/badged as just the Fairlady Z and the L26 removed and L20e installed. I hope someone might find this info interesting - and if I am incorrect in anyway please correct me as I do want to get the story correct. Quote
