Tony Mahonie Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Hello to all members. Long time 71 Zed owner, and finally getting close to completing the rebuild. After searching for info, I think my Z has been fitted with bits from other series of Z through out its life. I have two Z badges on the pillars, and no vents in the hatch, but has a 5 digit vin number? Is there any way to find out the exact factory build of my Z? Oliphips 1 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 31, 2021 Administrators Posted July 31, 2021 Hi Tony, What is the VIN # of your car? 71's didn't have the vented hatches. Quote
Tony Mahonie Posted July 31, 2021 Author Posted July 31, 2021 (edited) The date on the plate is 6/71. This is the change over between the so called series 1 and series 2, or so I’ve read. Edited July 31, 2021 by Tony Mahonie Added more Quote
C.A.R. Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 There's no such thing as series one and series two cars. gav240z 1 Quote
Tony Mahonie Posted July 31, 2021 Author Posted July 31, 2021 This is just a reference another site used to tell the difference between the 240z badged 1/4s, with hatch vents, and the Z badged 1/4s, without hatch vents. I’ve read that this designed changed on June 1971. HS30-00866 (wrong number sent before). Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 31, 2021 Administrators Posted July 31, 2021 Anything higher than HS30-00500 no longer will have the vented hatch and solid c-pillars. A 71 is still an early car, but doesn't have the very early car outside details like the vented hatch and solid C pillars. But it will still have the early console, dual choke set up and early seat recliners. Along with a myriad of other small details. Quote
Tony Mahonie Posted July 31, 2021 Author Posted July 31, 2021 Thanks Gav. Any advise where to find the original specs this Z was built with? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 31, 2021 Administrators Posted July 31, 2021 When you say specs what are you after exactly? Quote
Tony Mahonie Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 A bit of back ground. When I bought the Z, it didn’t have a choke, had a destroyed console, peeling door skins, L28 motor, no hazard switch, tons of little problems, and rust through out the body. I drove it for four years, then stripped it completely. That was 18 years ago. Now almost completed the rebuild. I have the drive line, and running gear all sorted. I’m searching for info about the option this Z had, like hazards, three speed wipers or two speed. Is there an Aussie site to find out where this Z was bought from originally? There is no log book or similar with this Z. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 1, 2021 Administrators Posted August 1, 2021 Some photos of what you have and are working with would help. Got a photo of compliance plate for example? That may help determine if it was an automatic or a manual from factory. Look under the dash at the glove box. There is Japanese writing often on the bottom of the dash that indicates market and transmission / option. In many cases. It's likely if your car was manual it would have had the dual choke (hand throttle) in it. Autos had a blanking plate. No Australian delivered 240z had hazards I'm afraid. You need to add it in. I can check my 71 wiper switch, but pretty sure it had intermittent and 2 more speeds. In terms of Aussie sites to learn more about these cars. You have arrived here. This is it... Nissan Australia appears to have lost records many years ago in a big office move in Melbourne City. So the best we can do is add information to the registry of data I've been putting together. Was your car 919 yellow from factory? Quote
Tony Mahonie Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 Here’s the plates, and holes in the dash. Yep, 919 yellow from factory. I’ll add the hazard wiring to the dash wiring tidy up l’m completing now. I had no intermittent speed on the wipers when I purchased this Z, I changed it over to intermittent, then 2 more speeds. The colour got changed by the previous owners to diablo red I think. I Kept it diablo red. You can see it in the profile shot. Looks similar to sjcurtis post, on June 30, 2006. No writing near the glovebox. The dash was re-skinned before me in beige, then I dyed it back to black. Might be “abitza” Z, thanks for helping. gav240z 1 Quote
