Door lock locks by itself

I've reassembled the doors on my 240 and have found that the button drops down by itself. So if I close the door it just locks. The doors were disassembled when I bought the car so I don't why it does this.

Does anyone know what keeps the door lock knob up and prevents it dropping back down?

From memory - & it's been many years since I took mine apart to clean & lube them - there's a spring inside the latch assembly which acts on the lever & rod & provides the very positive knob up / knob down options. When next in my garage I'll check the workshop manual to see if there's any illustration.
