GregTas Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 So my 240 is almost a goer. Last real mechanical job is sorting the tail shaft. I have an RB25 in it and I have a Skyline tail shaft, but the diff flange on the tailshaft is too large to fit my R180 diff. Is it possible to by a larger flange that could go on the front of my R180? i.e. R200 bolt pattern? or a large blank undrilled flange? Does anyone have any experience in doing this i.e connecting the RB up to an R180? Quote
Cozza Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 What about subaru? i think I’ve got one lying around somewhere Quote
GregTas Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 (edited) Thanks I did some checking and it looks promising. I didn't realise they might bolt straight. The flange is a good size. I found a pic of a Sti diff that could be suitable Do you know what model Subby would work? Edited September 1, 2018 by GregTas Quote
1600dave Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 (edited) Take skyline tailshaft and stock tailshaft to driveshaft manufacturer / repairer, tell them what finished length you need, hand over what will probably be a surprisingly small amount of money, come back a week later and you're set to go. GregTas Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 I didn't want to go with my stock datsun one because I wanted to go with a stronger uni joint. That tail shaft uni is also a stacked one and so not repairable if the uni breaks. I have a place that can modify my skyline tailshaft, I just need the larger diff flange to bolt it up. Quote
Cozza Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I think all sti’s had R180’s so any sti one should work. Yes they use the same spline, I currently run an sti LSD diff I just swapped the input flange and use some output shafts from the states to suit the Subaru spline count and circlip hold in method. Ill check out the shed/tip and see if I can find my one. You’re welcome to it. Quote
TOO60Z Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 There is the possibility of the larger flange fouling on the sway bar if you are going to run one. Quote
