Hi guys, I've got a shortnose 3.36:1 R180 LSD from a car I'm parting out. Would it be worthwhile swapping out the internals into a longnose housing?

It's going into my 2+2 turbo which I'm hoping for a fair bit of power out of (250kw+)

I was originally going to do an R200 as they're a bit heavier duty and should handle the power much better.

I'm running an RB30 gearbox with the L-series bell housing, pretty standard ratios.

3.36 is crap ratio not worth the effort. At the end of the day all R180s have 180mm crown wheel so not really any stronger than a standard one. For any decent turbo you want an R200.

Not technically true. While ring gear size is a factor, lower numeric ratios have more teeth and larger diameter pinion gears which are stronger.

Short nose pinion is too short to fit a long nose diff, the R* series R180 are stronger than the earlier Z 180's, they can be identified by a big R cast into the top of the case. For circuit work that R will take a few hundred horses but go easy on the burnouts. NB * Been ages since I had anything to do with these, I'm fairly sure the big letter is a R.

Nah, the letter is a B and there is also an A

 

Not to worry, didn't think it wouldn't be suitable but I just thought I'd double check!
