kamarchi Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Another quality repair The panel is seriously dented and probably stretched to hell, the swage line that runs just above the wheel arch is completely gone forward of the centre of the arch. I would like to repair rather than replace and wondering if anyone here is qualified enough to offer some advice. I think these are my options 1. Purchase a dent puller and shrinking disc and gently work it back into shape (not sure if this is possible given the condition) 2. Cut the damaged area out and repair (panel beat) and then then weld back in. 3. Cut as must of the damage area out that a rust repair section will cover and repair the rest. I am trying to metal finish all the repairs where possible, this is the only area where i have a gap in my skillset/ability but would like to learn. Thanks in advance Gary Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted June 12, 2018 Administrators Posted June 12, 2018 Yes it can be repaired but definitely a little tricky with limited access to the rear side. You could get an easy beat to help pull out the dents, then I'd look at a slapper, but you need to get the dolly behind the panel. I would not use a shrinking disc as I made a balls of it on my bonnet. However sometimes the only way to learn is through making mistakes. Quote
gilltech Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Personally I'd be repairing what's there, unless you can get hold of a replacement quarter of course. IMO it would be preferable to temporarily remove some of the inside structure to enable access. Why not ask around or online to see if you can get a retired or freelance old-school panel-beater to come in & give you a day or two's work on it? That's what I've done in the past. Quote
