Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 2, 2008 Moderators Posted May 2, 2008 I've decided to put my healthy L28 up for sale. Its a F54/N42 setup with a 74' cam, some porting and headwork. Engine hasn't had much use, just on weekends! Haven't revved the hell out of it, shift light set at 6200/redline 7000rpm. Was built by Steve Newing approx 7 years ago but not used for 5 of them. Has dyno sheets with 153Kw at wheels with my EFI setup. Just doesnt come with EFI setup or flywheel or manifold. I still have the original L24 my 240 came with so I'm not fussed about if the L28 sells. I'm happy I have a matching numbers, low chassis number 240! PM me or you can call me on 0413 243 760. If you need a hand with fitting, I can do it at my house (have hoist etc) for a small fee though! Ill post some pics soon too.. Looking for $1500 Quote
MR260 Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 How would power output be with twin su's and what else would need to be changed. My Zed currently runs an L28 which is in great condition and produces 115kw at wheels but a bit more would be nice. Why are you selling your motor Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 2, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 2, 2008 I'm not too sure how much power you would have with the Hitatchi's, with some big cams you need to move a lot of air. You can get big gains with at least 2" SU's or 40mm triples. With 45's you should see similar numbers to what I'm getting now. My induction setup is similar to 50mm Webers. The throttle bodies bore is 45mm but have no chokes. The reason I'm selling is I've decided to go the RB series engine direction. Rather than spend more money on the L28, I've always wanted to see what an RB25 would be like to race with. Ive located one (in avg condition) so I need the funds to finance this exercise! Quote
Glen Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 hi, once you take away the ITB's and also the Wolf ECU how many KW's do you think it would be at the wheels on stock original 240 carbs. Also the fly wheel your keeping was that balanced and lightened also. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 4, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 4, 2008 With the 240 carbs, I can only guess but you should see around 115-20 Kw at the wheels...When I had a stock L28 with the same carbs and elec distributor I managed 91Kw so with the cam and higher compression, that number might be what you can expect. modular9 Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 buy this over doing a l28 to the same specs I can honestly tell you that the work that has been done on this would cost you double that to get done. I know cos I am doing it right now to almost the same specs! Only difference is the induction/manifold: triple 40's dellortos instead, even have the 74 camshaft. zedman240 : are you going to run the efi setup on the rb over the stock ? If not are you looking to sell the set up ? and if so how much ? and can you solve the worlds problems at the same time ? ;D Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 4, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 4, 2008 Yeah, I'll be running the throttle bodies on the RB by modifying the original RB manifold to accept the TB's. I'm hoping for that Z432 look; as in the induction on the drivers side and exhaust on the other. Glen, I forgot to say the flywheel is needed for my L24 that I'm assembling and it was lightened and balanced. I'll probably get rid of the Weber manifold a little later on as well. Need it for now to get measurements off it. Modular, I'm flying to Iraq on Monday, then a brief stopover in Afghanistan then Africa and wherever else I'm needed...hectic schedule! Quote
modular9 Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 stop off in america pick up a few ld28 cranks ! Wow that is going to sound rorty ! I mean i know what a rb normally sounds but with some ITBs and ram tubes+filters will sound great. Be sure to do a video. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 4, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 4, 2008 I just hope I can build it in time for the Apollo Bay cruise. Don't want to miss that one! I've emailed Nissan in Brigton to see about the 200ZR sump and pickup. I think High Energy Pans make something for RB's in Zeds.... might save some headache! Quote

luvemfast Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Is it possible to view still running? Or have you already removed it? My L28 is still feeling strong and I have a spare in parts ready to rebuild, need to way up my options though. Was looking at making one of these http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=111342 for it. How do you think this will go with your motor? Simon Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 5, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 5, 2008 Yes, you can view it and it is still in the car. I've yet to touch a nut or bolt. Picking up the RB25 today to start the whole thing. Hope I don't regret it! Any intake system you devise should be ok with this engine. The trick is to get as much air into then out of the engine as efficently as possible; that's why the throttle bodies work so well. If you can copy the system, go for it. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 6, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 6, 2008 Just got an email from Nissan saying RB20 200ZR sumps and oil pickups are no longer available! Dammit! Custom = Dollars! Just to let everyone know who was thinking of doing this conversion.... Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 check out rbz260's sump, just cut, Spin and re-weld!!! plus chopping and extending whilst re-routing the pickup. im sure you or someone you know could do it no worries! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 9, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 9, 2008 It wouldve been good to do but the original sump was crushed pretty badly. The oil pickup made it out ok. Located a sump from a GQ Patrol and pickup anyway. See how that fits tonight. If that doesnt work, looks like the grinder is coming out! zzzzzzzzzzzzzz Quote
luvemfast Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Are you going to Calder sprints next weekend? I'll be there and interested to view the engine then if you are. Look for the black 280ZX 2 seater getting past by everyone. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 10, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 10, 2008 Unfortunately I don't think I'll be running at Calder. We have two christenings that weekend. Would've been good to do one last run but looks like I'll have to wait until the next event which will be done with the RB engine installed (if all goes well!). Anyone is still able to view, start and drive the car with the engine still in it's bay while I'm gathering parts for the RB! Quote
ZD44TT Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 indirectly related questions: How much power do you expect a tired L26 with standard SU's to be making at the wheels. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 10, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 10, 2008 I'd say around 70ish. Depends how tired/compression ratio you have, what fuel. Best guess wold be about 70 rear wheel Killawatts Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 12, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 12, 2008 If anyone is interested to hear and see the motor in action, I have a small video on youtube; Sorry about the audio quality...it just sucks.... Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 13, 2008 Author Moderators Posted May 13, 2008 Engine is sold! Quote
24OZ Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 well done who's the lucky buyer whoever they are they just need to buy my triple 40mm Dellortos for it now Quote
