Cozza Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I know I'm reviving another old thread but its the same question. I'm just about to put some Tokico illuminas in and wondered what oil I should use in the strut tube. I searched and found this thread and then read the thread on Ozdat but wasn't convinced, I'm a bit worried about corrosion. Has anyone else used a 50/50 glycol and water mix in there struts? What else do people recommend? Cheers Mick Quote
luvemfast Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 From memory, I think I used auto trans fluid............... I think I wouldn't go Glycol and water. You just want a heat soak to transmit temp out. If you have nothing in there, it'll act like a thermos and maintain the heat. So a thin oil is going to work best IMHO Quote
luvemfast Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I use coolant. The 4 year stuff. So you replace it every 4 years? Quote
Roberto Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 So you replace it every 4 years? More like every time I replace my strut inserts (5-10 years). There was no corrosion in the strut after my last replacement of my Koni's. The installation manual recommended either coolant or motor oil. Quote
