GregTas Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Hi, I've bought myself a grille. It needed a strip down to straighten.Unfortunately all the through bolts broke pulling it apart. So I will have to make some new bolts. They are 3mm OD. I was thinking of getting some 3mm rod and threading each end for the nuts.I have a die to do this. Has anyone got any suggestions on an easy source of 3mm steel rod? I need four bits about 200mm long. Thanks, Greg Quote
dat2kman Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Try some of the tool supply/nut-bolt supply type shops, for what is called Booker Rod. Fully threaded, it may come in smaller sizes? Quote
260DET Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I always check Bunnings on line for these sorts of things, a very quick look shows 3/16" threaded rod there, there may be others as well, use 'rod' to search. Quote

260DET Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 I used an old bicycle spoke(s). There's an idea, motor bike spokes. Quote
GregTas Posted June 19, 2017 Author Posted June 19, 2017 Thanks for the ideas. I haven't see threaded rod quite so small. Peter the Hobby shop is a possibility. They might have some thin rod I could thread. Motor bike spokes. That could work but might be a bit hard to find and I would feel bad ripping the spokes out of a classic bike wheel. I might cruise the Bunnings isles like I often do looking for things to chop up for a project and if that isn't successful then it'll be off to my other favourite shop for building materials............... the local tip shop.
