Wtb 2 Seater Project Sydney

Well the time has come guys. Been wanting a Z for ages and finally sold my last project so I'm ready. To many toys so had to sell to make room for a new one. I'm in Sydney so local would be perfect but might travel for the right car.

 

Must be a 240 or 260 2 Seater only as I love the lines of the roof. Looking for a long term project so open to anything at this stage. Running car would be good but would also be happy for a car with no running gear as the project will be an engine driveline swap anyway.

 

I'm new to Zs so this will be my first and looking forward to many happy years ahead. Prefer mostly complete and not just a shell, rust is expected but nothing fatal. Happy to strip down and put on a rotisserie so will be a ground up. With a 1.5yo kid and another due in a few weeks budget is tight, $5000 would be ideal but will consider higher if it's the right car.

 

Open to any suggestions, advise or opinions at this stage as like I said I'm new to the scene and have been happily admiring for the last few years. Located in Engadine Sydney.

$10k is much more realistic for a project needing a lot of work. This 1 on eBay sold over the weekend.

The cheapest projects often cost the most to restore. Where as the more expensive ones cost less to restore.

You'll have to forgive crowd here, you see we're used to every tom, dick and harry jumping on here and looking for a $5k project car. That ship has sailed unless you want a 2+2.

Yeah mate, to be honest the prices have just moved to much in recent years to get anything worth playing with for under 10K - maybe even more if I am honest.  That said, you sometimes see a bargain (a friend got a Ok 260 2+2 very very cheap which I have been trying to buy off him haha).  The best advice I received was to concentrate more on the cost to complete (even if you do most of the work yourself) when looking at the buy price of a car.  I did up a very simple spreadsheet (which was well under priced when I review) of all things I could think of and what I though it would cost and I would just select the relevant ones when looking at each car - doing this really stopped me from buying a total POS.  This paid off when we blasted the car as there was not so many surprises etc.  I know of two 240s plus one of my own that are around that figure but no one is really trying to sell just thinking of it.  My advice for what it is worth and pending your skillset would be to save a bit more and buy into something complete and in OKish condition - just try to save at a rate faster than the appreciation of these cars.

Great point and it may be difficult with recent price hikes.

 

I bought my 240 as a non runner with very little to no rust almost 7 years ago for $6250. Needed a motor and brake and suspension work.

I don't think I could afford the same condition car now. Prolly closer to $30k odd.

Doubling every 3 years is a pretty good investment but one that can't continue for ever I'd imagine.

Hey Guys, thanks for the replies. I just sold a toy for $15k and that money was always going to a car buy have bought too many other toys over the last couple of years so that money had to pay some debts. I'm not in a mojor rush as kids are taking up all my time now but am looking for a long term project. A roller would be fine as I will do an drive train swap. I'm after a 2 Seater as I like the lines of the roof. There has been plenty of 2+2s pop up in Sydney for 10k over the last two years. That green one is in sydney and is very rusty. Spent a lot of its life in the weather by the looks.
