Refer to here; http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/12272-separating-bonnet-skin-and-frame/page-2 My bonnet is not bad and could be fixed, but it's going to take significant time and effort to get it 'right'. So I am looking at shortcuts (although it may short cut some good learnings so I'm not sure what i'll do yet). I just wanted to weigh up options first. Can we vented or non vented, rusty or not rusty. But hopefully not previously bent in the front right hand corner. Please post pics of what you have and feel free to send me a PM with what you'd like to get for it. I do have a spare bonnet but not really sure what lurks below the primer... Quote
Brabham Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I'd start attacking the spare Gav if you think yours is too far gone, is your spare vented or non-vented? I think I'm up to about 60 hours on my bonnet now, in retrospect I should have found a better one but have learnt a lot through doing it. Probably better to learn on your damaged one as I managed to put a little bit of warpage in mine, even though being very careful with heat in mig welding. Good luck, they are getting harder to find. You're talking to the guy who had the "UP" stamp replicated on the Rally Clock Oscillator Box... Having said that, if I could find a good FRP bonnet that was an accurate replica of the Z432-R style bonnet, I'd paint it flat black and be happy with that as an alternative (but I still want a good steel bonnet also!). I picked one up from him to use to fix my bonnet and I think he may have had a few others but not sure of the condition. I know at the time he had not found any that were in what you would call great condition. might be worth a try? Even if you use a few to build one good one. I need to pick something up of another member who is going to pick something up from Cam for me. I need to go to LCR to pick up my engine etc up from Les and might be able to make one trip for the lot? Ill have the barge we use for Rally service so no problem with room.
