zcar63 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Hi Yall Any gestimates on how much you can safely bore an L26 block ? I'm a little retentive in the back passage at the moment, and don't want to fork out MORE money to engine shop, for sonic testing or anything else ATM ,I'll get over the passage issues soon but for now any opinions on the L26 are welcome. C.A.R. Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Cylinder bore core shift is a massive problem on L6 blocks. IMHO you'd get away with a 1mm over-bore on bore centres, but for anything more than that, you MUST get it sonic tested with a view to off-set boring. If the block is matching numbers to your Z, do you want to risk ruining the block by over-boring it too far? zcar63 1 Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Forgot to add that you better check that the bores are still at 83mm - you don't want to go boring a block that might already be 1mm over... Quote
Cozza Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Just out of interest. Is core shift more of a problem on L series engines than others, or is it an issue that is common across all engines? The sleeves appear quite thin, is that pretty standard or do other engines have more meat to play with? Quote
Simestime Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 If matching numbers is not an issue,i have a spare l26 block with .5mm o/s bore that you can have cheap...im in bris. Quote
dat2kman Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 On sonc, the N42's have a bit more wall thickness than F54's, but core shift in casting process s a concern. Spend a bit, get it hot tanked and soniced, its insurance. I use Jack Bros in Underwood, quick turn around, and, when pistons/rings selected, use them for boring. They are very good. Quote
