XYZ Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Hi all, Was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to assist. My car is with my mechanic and the distributor is shot (the gear part that mates to the cam has stripped). He's having a tough time tracking one down and reckons it may have to be ordered from the UK. I've tried google, ebay, repco, nissan etc. Does anyone have one for sale or can point me to where I could buy one? I've spoken with Ash from Moorabin Auto (a supplier listed in this forum) and no luck there. Thanks and regards Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 28, 2016 Administrators Posted January 28, 2016 Which gear part? Are you talking about the distributor shaft that connects to the crankshaft? Got a photo of what you're describing? Quote
XYZ Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 Which gear part? Are you talking about the distributor shaft that connects to the crankshaft? Got a photo of what you're describing? Many thanks for your reply Gav. I don't have a photo sorry. I'm told that it's that helical gearing at the end of the distributor shaft that connects to the crankshaft and that these gears have stripped. The mechanic sent it to be repaired but was told it's not repairable and that a complete distributor would need to be purchased. I've been doing some enquiries to try and avoid ordering from the UK (14 day turnover apparently). Reagrds Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 28, 2016 Administrators Posted January 28, 2016 It sounds like the distributor drive spindle. Photo from Locky's L28 rebuild thread. I'm afraid I don't think I have any spare. Quote
XYZ Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 Thank you Gav - I suspect that's the culprit referred to. Regards Quote

XYZ Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 Thanks for all your help gents - much obliged. Gav, forgive my ignorance but I assume the "oil pump drive shaft spindle" referred to in the ebay links you provided is one in the same as the distributor drive shaft spindle, or the dizzy runs off it as well, or did I confuse things? I'm receiving a call from my mechanic shortly and will ask for the part number etc. Thanks Retro Z - I'll be in touch with these people as soon as I can. Again, thank you both for your knowledge. If you'll bear with me I'll speak with my mechanic shortly, get him to send me some pics/part no, forward to you and check that I'm not wasting your time. Regards Quote

XYZ Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 Thank you Peter, you're a gentleman. It looks like we're able to source one through performance ignition services though so I won't need to take you up on your offer. Price at about $600 is a little breathtaking so I'm glad the wife's on board for the resto! Thank you all for your kind assistance. Regds Quote
C.A.R. Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 SW Motorsport in NSW has brand new Nissan Dizzy spindles & worm gears on the shelf. You might want to get a price from them before you commit to the item from Performance Ignition... BTW you can't just buy the spindle by itself as it's matched to the worm gear.If you install a new spindle while retaining the old worm gear, you'll destroy the spindle and you'll be back at square one again. peter t Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 (edited) Also check with Dave 24 Dat as his race car stripped one of these at the nationals {spindal gear} If you want a Dissy I have one to sell. Also take note of what Lurch has to say as he is the Guru. I also get gear from SWM and are great people to deal with. Edited January 29, 2016 by peter t Quote
dat2kman Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 The spindle I have can be supplied with its matching gear! Don't give Lurch a big head, with this guru talk,,,, gav240z 1 Quote
C.A.R. Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 The spindle I have can be supplied with its matching gear! How worn is it? For all the heartache & trouble I'd just buy new. gav240z 1 Quote
XYZ Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 Thanks again gents for all the help. Lurch, I'm told the gear teeth are fairly stripped and the componentry inside are shot too. Probably explains why it stopped firing (had to tow it to mechanics) and was hard to start before it stopped, and with fairly lacklustre acceleration (well, relatively poor compared to an ssv and m37!). Anyways, distributor's ordered and being put together and will arrive mid week. I've already committed with performance ignition and I'm not the type to resile. Thanks for the offers anyway Peter and d2k - much obliged? Cheers guys Quote
dat2kman Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 How worn is it? For all the heartache & trouble I'd just buy new. Surprsingly not very mch, it came out of a sub 100k L28E But yes, mew is hetter With the tangs at each end, t s advsable to get the roots f the angs shotpeened, to redce their propensity to break, possibly due to harmonics present. I'm now down to only 25% vision capability, central vision s about gone, i rely on eripheral. Try ths, Put atwo 10cent sized bits of opaque clear Contact, on a pair of regular glasses, r sunnes, then try and se your peripheral to do stuff! Jolly frustrating! I'll ersevere! Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 30, 2016 Administrators Posted January 30, 2016 The oil pump drive spindle is part no. 15040-21001 Courtesy parts lists it at 84 USD. http://www.courtesyparts.com/oe-nissan/1504021001 The Worm drive is part no. 15043-21000 Listed at 61.90 USD. http://www.courtesyparts.com/oe-nissan/1504321000 Just doing some late night parts manual reading - as you do... I found the first part much cheaper through another site I sometimes use to look up OEM parts, but the description came back as a Tie Rod so not really sure if it will be the correct part. Quote
