locklock Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Mr K's 260z on displayed during Zcon 2015. Check out the mileage and vin Quote
gilltech Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Nice original car. Is that an aftermarket sunroof, or did Nissan install it themselves do you think? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 19, 2015 Administrators Posted July 19, 2015 That is a 260z 2+2 (not a 280z) and quite rare to see 1 of those I'd imagine in the US of A. I didn't think they got the 2+2 until the 280z in the US? I see it has the Calendar clock also. Must be an early 74 year car, notice it has the AMP gauge not the volts gauge also? Quote
locklock Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 According to the site , Its an aftermarket sunroof. Btw, do u know where was the location of the car picture taken from for the vin? Dashboard? Quote
GongZ Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 ... Btw, do u know where was the location of the car picture taken from for the vin? Dashboard? Yes, the number on US cars is inside the windscreen on the driver's (left) side. I assume that this was a requirement when the S30 were sold in the US market, similar to the current rules. The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and Regulations - Part 565 - Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Content Requirements, states; "(f) The VIN for passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles, low speed vehicles, and trucks of 4536 kg or less GVWR shall be located inside the passenger compartment. It shall be readable, without moving any part of the vehicle, through the vehicle glazing under daylight lighting conditions by an observer having 20/20 vision (Snellen) whose eye-point is located outside the vehicle adjacent to the left windshield pillar. Each character in the VIN subject to this paragraph shall have a minimum height of 4 mm." Quote
dat2kman Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Of it actually is a Nissan USA owned vehicle, and, yes, stickers are easily reproduced, it wouod have been one car in a "pool" of many, used for evaluation, as well as driven my the executives and managers in the US. Does not necessarlily prove it s in fact a Mr K car! He would have had access to and driven many! Quote
GongZ Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Mr K's 260z on displayed during Zcon 2015. Check out the mileage and vin Hi locklock, Where did you get the photos from? Did you go to ZCon 2015? *Edit* I just found 175 photos here; https://www.flickr.com/photos/stevej260z/albums/72157656047516861/page1 I notice that the silver twin turbo RB powered S30 (half way through page 1) is RHD - does anybody here know of this car? locklock Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 No wonder i couldn't see any vin on my dashboard but on the internet says there is one of the locations of the vin. No i didn't go to zcon, i got the photos and info from the facebook group page for s30. Bulk of the members from america. The 240z designer was there too. Mr. Matsuo, he was signing Z car owners visor. Envy envy Suddenly i realize there is a car mach matsuo in disney pixar Cars2. https://www.facebook.com/groups/386021341481608/ Here a link on the write up of the car. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2015/07/14/a-short-drive-in-mr-ks-1974-datsun-260z/ Quote
GongZ Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 The VIN number inside the windshield was just one location on the US cars; http://www.answers.com/Q/Where_is_the_vin_on_a_1970_240z US cars actually had The VIN on a '70-73 240Z (US model) was located in four separate places. The format was "HLS30-00000". It was stamped into the firewall of the body itself near the wiper motor wiring, stamped on a data plate riveted to the driver's door jamb, On another data plate screwed to the passenger inner fender in the engine compartment, and on a plate riveted to the dash pad on the driver's side visible through the windshield. The door jamb plate also has the production date, and the engine compartment plate also has the engine number. Quote

GongZ Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Hmmm how about door jamb plate? Only on US cars or all? Cause mine is not there :'( Australian delivered cars did not have the door jamb plate - so I assume it was just US - or maybe I should say LHD cars. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 20, 2015 Administrators Posted July 20, 2015 Australian delivered cars did not have the door jamb plate - so I assume it was just US - or maybe I should say LHD cars. I believe the vin in dash and door jamb are a federal compliance issue for US market cars. I don't believe I've seen these on any European, NZ or Australian delivered vehicles. I don't think Canadian cars had these either, but happy to be corrected. Quote
locklock Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Does the rhd 240z has vin stamped on the firewall passenger side? My engine bay is repainted the vin is not there. It only has the vin plate. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 20, 2015 Administrators Posted July 20, 2015 Drivers side in front of the windscreen cowl near the inspection lid on the firewall. Same place as your 240z. Quote
Six_Shooter Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 All Canadian cars I have seen have the dash and door plates, unless they were removed at some point. Quote
